Search for International Relations. Youll find a million answers.

The fact is that IR usually resides within political science departments. Go to a school with a good poli sci. department. Learn economics. Focus on a region. Learn something about diplomatic history and law. Learn languages. Go for junior year abroad. These are all good prep for continuing in IR.

I think among undergrad schools that have a specific foreign policy practice focus, Georgetown is premier.

Tufts, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins - first tier
GWU and American - first-tier IR/IS programs at less-selective schools, a great alternative if you don't make into T/GT/JH
