International Relations/Social Sciences Colleges

I don't know if this is in the right section but oh well lol.

I was wondering if someone could help me find 1 or 2 more IR schools to apply to?

I have a 3.7 GPA weighted (fail lol), top 20%, 1880 SAT (650 CR, 610 Math, 620 WR). Student Council Treasurer, English Club President, Model United Nations Undersecretary General, California Scholarship Federation Vice-President, Newspaper Editor.

I know schools like Georgetown, USC, U Penn, Middlebury, and Johns Hopkins are completely out of reach. Currently I'm applying to (1) George Washington U (2) American U (3) Boston U for my privates. I know BU has nothing to do with IR. I've been searching around and some other good picks seem to be (1) Washington U in St. Louis (2) Kenyon College (3) William & Mary (4) Union College... not necessarily for IR but for just social science majors.

Any suggestions? I guess the colleges suggested don't have to be IR majors. Somewhere that is reasonable for my low GPA and low SAT

Thank you.

If you got your test scores way up, you could have a shot at good IR schools like Tufts, Georgetown, and JHU. You should also check out Goucher College. They seem like a good fit for you.

WUStL is going to be a huge reach for you, as your SAT scores are sub-par (falling well below the bottom 25%)

William and Mary is an excellent undergraduate college and you have a decent shot.

As for test scores, if you can try to retake them for a higher score and it will greatly improve your chances at top schools.

GW and American are not huge reaches for you either. You have quite a good change at both.

Yeah I know buzzers, sucks haha. I really wish I could have applied to JHU. And I know Georgetown is notorious for giving bad FA so oh well. I’m looking into Goucher now. Thanks :).

Yeah NYU2013, it probably would be. Eh, that statistic you posted sort of opened up my eyes haha. I guess I’ll try for W&M but I think it’s a little bit of a stretch. I can’t retake tests, past Dec. and I’m a senior :(. Yeah I think I’ll get into GW. I’ve heard good things about AU but I’ve also heard plenty of bad things. I don’t know, I just HOPE AU is an option.

Syracuse is supposed to be good for IR, and I think your stats would make it a Match.

Richmond is great for IR and youre a viable candidate with your GPA and scores.

AU and GWU seem like really good options. Tufts and WM are a bit tougher to get into, but both have excellent IR programs (Albright said WM had the best IR major in the nation…)

Macalester.

University of Denver, University of Pittsburgh and Ohio State all might be worth a look. Best of luck!
