Hello
Im currently at student a Santa Monica College and im looking to transfer to a 4 year university majoring in International Relations.

I know in California: UCSD, Berkley and UCD have good IR Programs but I was wondering if it would be best to transfer to a school in the DMV area (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) because you are surrounded by the government and from what I heard from a friend you are more likely to get an internship

is this true ?

if you go to school in DC, you can take semester internships. Obviously you can’t take a semester internship at an agency in DC if you go to school in California. You will obviously be able to shoot for summer internships, but the summer internships are a lot more competitive. The semester internships are geographically self selecting, creating a smaller applicant pool.

soccerguy315:

You can take semester internships in DC through one of the UC schools through the University of California Washington Center. [UC Washington Center - Home](http://www.ucdc.edu/)

sure. A lot of schools do have washington offices for exactly this purpose. It is not the same as having 11 attempts (8 semesters and 3 summers) to land the really good internships.

that said, obviously you can go to school in California and then get a job in DC. People do it all the time.
