Does anybody know any colleges with good international relations programs besides the ones in DC (gw, gtown, etc)??

Tufts has the best :) American, Middlebury (kind of - not exactly IR per se but virtually the same field), Brown, Johns Hopkins is excellent.

thanx i'll look into them

what are some jobs that you could look into after majoring in international relations? besides politics

Well, the State Department is an obvious choice (and great for internships in the summer) along with the UN and a plethora of other NGO's and international non-profit or human rights organizations.

Claremont McKenna
Stanford
UC San Diego
University of San Diego
University of Washington

add the CIA to deroutefille's list.

These international relations programs prepare students for careers in the international arena, government work in the Foreign Service, agency work, and public and private international organizations, including non-governmental organizations, consulting, business, banking, teaching, and international journalism or marketing

thanx for the suggestions!

isnt Woodrow Wilson School @ Princeton a IR school? The tops by far is SFS at Georgetown..... for unergrad. For grad... its all over the place.

Um, I think it is. But for grad school...I definitely think there are some stand-outs, to me at least...
Johns Hopkins SAIS
The Fletcher School at Tufts
Georgtown SFS again...

Wilson school is also public affairs.

3 international relations majors from connecticut college received fullbrights or watson awards 2 years ago (a huge number considering how small the college is). its one of the best departments there.

thanx thats good to kno

Nine Georgetown students this year were awarded Fullbright grants.

I am 98% positive that I want to get into International Relations, something to do with Foreign Policy, but I really don't know what I'd do with a degree there. What kind of UN jobs are available? I also think that I might want to go into political journalism, specifically international journalism or international business. What school should I go into for that, other than Georgetown? If I want to go to pursue IR and foreign policy during my graduate years, will it be a disadvantage if I didn't go to a school that specialized in it during undergrad? Will it be a disadvantage if I didn't major in IR as an undergrad, choosing journalism, poli-sci or business instead? Because two branches of IR I want to seriously consider are International Journalism and International Business. What would be good undergrad colleges for those?

Try Princeton. The Woodrow Wilson School is top notch, and offers a vast range of majors. If you change your mind, you can also do something other than IR, and you have tons of options.

how are BU's programs compared to say Tufts or GW?

BU has a very good program, just not as good as GW and definetly not as great as Tufts.
GW does have a big edge.... DC !!!

my vote is American, especially since it also has a strong School of Communications(journalism.)and yaah, DC!

^I agree with the choice of American, although IMO it's main strength--from an International Relations perspective--would be AU's School of International Service, which features that major. And, yes, DC is definitely the place to be to study IR.:)
