Diana,
Did you talk to her in Romanian also?Since I live in Timisoara I might meet her in person! Good luck to you with Brown.I sure hope you will get in!!! When are you going to find out the decision?

after she got all her questions over we also talked in Romanian :)
thanks a lot. I will find out the results in mid-december[hopefully around 10-12 dec]. and I sure hope for good results, although as I said before I'm realistic.... and am also considering other colleges for RD. it's going to be such a long period till I find out my decision...but well... I hope it's woth it;)

btw elisa....good luck with your apps too! and also with your physics sat test.... I'm sure you'll do fine[also better than me :p]

@IHS

I did actually said earlier that I got 800 on math and 600 WR. But that was a prognose.. As it had turned out , I wasn't so far off

okay, advice time, you guys :D:

i have a 2130 in my SAT I - i'm happy with my CR (780) and essay (12)scores. I'm not too thrilled about my math (670) and writing (680) scores. I gave this test without practice; so i was thinking may be if i retake it in december (stand by testing) with some practice over the next 10 days, i can improve my math and writing scores?

my SAT II scores were so laughably bad, i HAVE to retake them and originally i thought about retaking in dec. but i've been so busy this november that i didn't get to study the subjects as much - so if i retake them in jan (with entire december to study Bio, Math II and either Chem or Literature), do you think my RD colleges (if Vassar doesn't work out :( ) will accept them?

this is my plan for now - SAT I retake in dec and SAT II retake in jan. i want you guys to tell me the pros / cons of this plan :D would really appreciate your help, thanks from beforehand :D

lakshmi: good to know your interview went great!! :D:D i think when you love a school that much, it kinda shines through.

everyone else: great SAT scores! especially those SAT II scores (they make me wanna go hide under a table or something sheepish smile) congratulations to you all!

yep i think you should take SAT I standby in dece. however, some schools such as columbia wont accept scores if they are taken in jan, although HYP does...

hey guys...here's my problem...

so far im applying to HYP. Should I also apply to Columbia? I need a lot of financial aid but my stats arent spectacular so i thought i wouldnt have a change at a non need blind school anyway. but then i thought that if i dont, i might regret it come april! and then i thought about applying to williams, where ill have a bigger chance, but it is a LAC and no one's heard of it here...so i might not go even if i get accepted...

so ...what do you think...should i apply to any other colleges apart from HYP? Im not looking for any matches or safeties cause im happy to stay where i am in Australia.

hi eberyone. just droppig by. pretty busy nowadays.

oh btw i want to cry.

i went through my whole email inbox yesterday, dating back to october 2003. i just found out that, in august, when i registered for SAT october, i listed U of C, Umich, USC and NYU under the four free ones. on october 8, after the test, i paid CB to send scores to U of C, Umich, USC and NYU, since i didn't think i listed the recipients on register. on octobeer 23, i ransancked my email inbox and couldn't find the receipt payment for Umich scores, so i just paid CB again to send my scores to Umich.

so now, Umich has THREE idenctial score reports, while U of C, USC and NYU ahave TWO identical reports each. that's USD$45 flushed down the drain by an ignorant forgetful piece of failure.

Anyone heard about the University of Waterloo in Canada?

They've got one of the best Maths department in North America.

banedon: those things happen. don't be too hard on yourself for something that's already done. and may be the colleges will think you are REALLY eager to attend them - which is a good thing, right? ;) they have your scores, that's what's important - how many score receipts they got isn't :D

jay01: i understand you're happy in australia - but just in case you change your mind or suddenly feel the urge to leave for a while next year, why don't you apply to a few more schools? i'm not saying give up hope on HYP... but they're such tough schools to get into for ANYBODY - it won't hurt to throw in a few more schools. but this also depends on what you think of LACs - if you don't like them as much, you may not enjoy going to one either. personally, i'm all for small, where-in-the-world-is-college-X LACs but it differs from person to person :D

just my 2 cents. :)

jay, i think you should apply to columbia. I think you should apply to all the schools that tickle your fancy lol (if money isn't a concern)
If you don't get into any.. well.. tough titties. You're backup is australia right? and you like it there.. so that's cool.

Plus, Brown isn't known as the 'lowest ivy'. If you want to go stats wise, cornell would be the 'lowest ivy'.
Brown is a very very hippie/liberal ivy (lots of drugs i heard lol)

ANd there's nothing wrong with not wanting to go the 'lowest ivy'. If your main goal is prestige (which many many people look down upon) then go for prestige. It's just another factor in how you choose schools, such as location, weather, liberal/conservative, etc..

Plus, to whoever that said that HYP people are uptight - prestigious ivies do not mean filled-with-snobby-people ivies.

and kee, you got awesome sat scores! congrats.

thanks NoFX - hope my beloved vassar thinks so too :D

"oh btw i want to cry." Banedon, i second that, but for my own reasons. I just got a confirmation from Princeton that despite having a norwegian citizenship, and being indian by ethnicity, i will be considered korean because i graduated from there :( :( :( :( :( :( i can just give up on princeton then...way too much competition.

Deference
But ur scores are good. Did u apply EA/ED anywhere?

callthecops2, i feel for you. but then you have a multinational background, that should be helpful abit.

oh U of C just told me they got my TOEFL after all, on the 21st of November, 3 weeks after the EA deadline.

How much did u get?!

OH MY GOD, If they treat you like any person from the country u live in...Im doomed

By the way, concerning multinational background:
Where can I say that I am German and French? Do you think it's alright to state this in the optional essay form? I mean, should I just go ahead like "Yeah, and I also have the French citizenship" or what?

IHS

No I didnot apply ED/EA anywhere, and I really realy regret it.
But I actually couldn't, because if I had applied ED then I risked the chance of being offered too less aid.
EA wasn't possible, because all the EA schools required 3 SAT'sII while I still just have taken 2

I've been busy these days and it seems I missed a lot here.

Lakshmi, I knew it would be ok;) You're a Balkan girl, you rock;)

Banedon, I feel for you:( But come on, it won't reflect your applications and if you try to forget the money you gave your story actually sounds pretty funny;)

Deference, I also regret not applying EA:( If I weren't retaking the SAT I in Dec I probably would have applied. I would even learn the EA decision a few days before my birthday and I could have a nice Birthday present;(

aw5k, I think people with multilingual background are very interesting. They actually have a real hook.

And yeah, I don't really feel like posting my SAT II scores:) Actually the one I expected to be highest turned out to be lowest... extremely low. It kinda sucks...
callthecops, how long have you lived in Norway? I think they will definitely take it into consideration.
