New member here!!!!!! Say Hiiiiiiiii!

hi there! :)

hey, you guys... my advice...each time you fall..get up and continue walking!

that's all I have to say for now!

thnx for the advice lakshmi!

"why do we fall??, so we can learn how to pick ourselves up"
Thomas Wayne

Just remembered that quote after lakshmi post...

I still got hope..but everytime when I think about it realistically then I just get the feeling that it is false hope, and that really hurts a lot

I am considering not taking the Toefl...because it's too expensive and too far away from home... Do you think it's a good choice?

Hi there. Pretty new here. one question. What do you think about taking sat1 twice just to get to lower all your scores. hmm, pretty unfortunate, crazy I might say. Do you think they would still look at those from the first test, without paying attention to the second attempt?

I didn't take the Toefl either. but if I don't get in ED, which is most probable, I'm ging to have to take it :( I had the same reasoning :too expensive..there are a lot of things I could do with that money, but if I have to...I have to.... most schools require Toefl for intls :( can't understand why since we have ok CR scores...

hi Ramona. nice to see another Romanian around here. where are you from?
to answer your question, colleges say they look at your HIGHER scores, even if they lowered on a second attempt. so don't worry. :)

Hmm that is really bad...
I really don't feel like to do the test..

If I just send my app in without Toefl scores... would they just simply ignore it?

don't know really...don't they tell you if something is missing from your app ? I really don't know what to tell you because they might just be satisfied with your sat scores, or they might be not :(

I am from Galati. And ya I know what they say about scores but I was pretty disappointed and I don't want them to feel the same.
Congrats on all your scores and your decision. I really like Brown. Great choice. Hope you get in.
Oh and there is sth more that bothers me. I took both Math I and II, and I almost sure that the first is useless. So, I out of three SAT II tests, I only have two to count on(math and french). Hmm...why couldn't they consider both? I wonder

Lakshmi

I mailed several colleges about the Toefl question...
The big colleges, like harvard, yale.. they don't bother if you take toefl or not... the Lac's like vassar, middlebury gave vague answers, they would like you to take it when possible

"would like you to take it when possible" mainly means you should take it. I'm not for taking it either, but imho if I get rejected/deferred from Brown, I WILL take my toefl just to be sure. I've worked too much for this application process to give my chances away because of a stupid test... obviously it is up to you.

Ramona, I'm a little confused, who do you mean by "they"? also do you mean they couldn't consider but 2 subject tests no matter in which area, or because you had 2 of them in math....?

Yeah you're probably right...
When is the last possible date that you can take the toefl, and getting the scores to the colleges on time?

really don't know...considering I was planning to take mine after I get my decision from Brown.... but I think if you're done with it by the beginning of February you should be ok. obviously the sooner the better. I heard something about the toefl arriving kinda late to the colleges, so it's safer to take it as soon as possible. :)

: )))) i lived in Norway for 15 years, studied in an int'l school here for 12 years there. moved to korea and studied 2 years there (11th and 12th). did 9th in Norway and skipped 10th when i came to korea.

hmm callthecops, i think they definately take into consideration that you've got norwegian citizenship. cuz when i had my yale inter view, my interviewer specifically asked what citizenship i had (australian, of course:)) as there were a lot of Chinese students in Australia applying too...I'm guessing he asked to separate me from those students:)

It doesn't matter about citezenship..

I have a new zealand citizenship but if I went to school in korea for the last 3 years of my highschool years, I'd be in the Korean pool. in NO way would I be considered amongst new zealanders!

You are in the country's (from where you attended your last years of highschool) pool. Regardless of citizenship - unless a U.S one.

Colleges look at citizenship is for student body diversity. And it doesn't have that much of a boost either. Race is what matters - AA, cutting down on Asians in the UCs, etc..

All of u, plz post ur list of colleges with finanical aid considerations...and intended major...it will be helpful for all of us here... this is specially for those who have got both SAT I and II results by now...
