International SAT scores

Hello everyone,

I read somewhere that international SAT scores(especially the CR) tend to be lower. Adcoms therefore look more leniently at internaional sat scores. So I was wondering if all the non-native speakers(at home or at school) could post their Sat 1 and Sat 2 scores and the schools where they are applying, so we can get an image of what normal international sat scores are.

Here come mine:

From holland,

Sat 1 : 740 M 630 CR 760 Wr
Sat 2 : 750 math 2 750 bioM 760 Chem

applying to; princeton, harvard, cornell, brown, stanford, dartmouth, yale, tufts, uvm

I’m also very interested in this. If anyone could contribute with actual results from accepted students that would be fantastic

From Denmark:

SAT I: 790 M 770 W 740 CR
SAT II: 670 M II 660 Physics (our curriculum is way different from US physics and parts of the math, hence the lower scores)

Of the more competitive colleges i’m applying to; Princeton, Stanford & Brown

From S. Korea (I lived in the US for a while, though):
SAT I superscored: 770 M 800 W 800 CR
SAT II: 700 M II, 770 US History, 780 Literature

Applying to: Yale, Princeton, Williams, UChicago, UPenn, Swarthmore, UC Berkeley, Rice

^ woooow really impressive, not a native speaker? Did you study a lot? I didnt really study for my sats, maybe I should have

from Germany,

ACT: 32
SAT II: MathII 800, Physics 790, Chem 800

Hi…I’m not technically an international, I moved to the US from Sweden about a year ago.
Still…english is my third language.

ACT: 34
SAT Math IIc - 800, Spanish - 800, Physics - 780

Whether or not money is needed is a critical factor. Also how much competition there is from your country. A low score will be overlooked for a full pay student from a country without many applicants or a student from a small African nation with no English education.

SATI: 690CR/750M/680W I didnt study at all and I expected much lower scores. I guess I was lucky :-D

SATII: 800 MII/770 WH

Czech republic, I have been studyong English for like 5 years now.

Penn(maybe), Swarthmore, Williams, Grinnell, Washington and Lee, Bates, Trinity college, U of Richmond, St. Lawrence University

to hmom5-

I really hope you’re right, because it would be great for me. I cant pay much money, say 10 000 tops, but I am from a country which sends very few students to US schools - currently there are about 400 of them.

SAT I: 790CR/760M/750W (12 essay)
SAT II: 800 MII/730WH
Applying to Ivies and top LACs from a country where there are very few (~50 per year) applicants to US colleges. English is my third language.

Oooh thats great news. I’m not applying for financial aid and my country only sends around 800 people per year:)

Isn’t 800 people a LOT? Well, compared to some Asian countries, it might be few, but still, I wouldn’t call it “only 800”.

Idk, it doesnt sound like

I think this also includes the Fulbright people, who only go to the US for one year, and everyone from international schools… I heard top-schools get around 30 applicants from the Netherlands each year. Which is still quite a lot considering they usually only take 1.

oo yeah that is a lot, well I know cornell takes about 3 and princeton 2 I believe. It also depends on the strength of the applicants I guess

Chinese International: 680 CR / 800 M / 800 W
SAT II: Chem 800 / Phy 800 / M II 800

What OP said is true. It’s a 120 point difference for me.

Are they really more lenient about CR? I guess, logically, non-native speakers wouldn’t be directly compared with natives, but with tons of high scorer internationals already, do colleges “need” to do that?

Well, I think it depends on the country you come from, like hmom said. I guess coming from some Asians countries who have lot of really well-qualified applicants, you would need higher scores than from countries who have relatively few applicants and don’t have a tradition of striving for academic and extra-curricular excellence.

Well they dont “need” low sat scores:P. However they do need leaders, intellectuals and social people. They don’t want(although they also accept these) people that have only good stats(2400 etc), it helps, but if you dont impress them with your personality, forget it. I have relatively low sat scores(630 cr/ math 740 /wr 760 /740 mth2/760 chem/750 bioM) but I think I have a decent shot(because my extracurics, school and essays). SATS are only part of the equation. I only set up this thread to see if sat scores were lower among internationals, but that is clearly not the case(unfortunately for me:P)

^guiltyB hahaha description of holland:P
