Yes, they are definitely the same. Curves for International SATs are predetermined, if I recall correctly. After all, the past two SAT Is I’ve taken have been recycled from previous SATs administered in the US in the past…

yourxlover and frankchn, i’m not sure what you mean by “bell curve” is different/same but what I can say is that accepted student score ranges vary from nation to nation. Whether the colleges admit it or not, they want international diversity and there’s still a rough quota for each nation, so essentially applicants from the same nation still compete with one another. that’s what i observe anyway. So say if you got 2000 and you’re the best in your country, you might still get in.

Anyway I’m from Singapore, 2400 SAT I, got into Princeton

Am I the first Brit here then?

SAT I
M - 730
CR - 800
W - 800

SAT II
French - 800
Math II - 750

If anyone knows of other British scores would be helpful!

Well, of course. What I meant by bell curve is that if you score 70/80 on the same paper in both Singapore and Hong Kong, you will have the same score.

hey bilguun, sorry for the stupid question, but how come you are so good?especially in the SAT? Did you learn a lot or ar you simply a genius?
I am an International Student from Switzerland applying to several colleges, like Binghamton, Stony Brook etc. and my best score on the SAT (i took it twice) is 1980 (590 CR, 690 M, 700 W). Any idea how I can push up my scores?

And from Italy! (any other Italians around?)

SAT I
M - 760
CR - 720
W - 760 (12 essay)
Total - 2240

SAT II
Math II - 800
Physics - 800
Need to take one last one…

Applied to Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Williams, Berkeley and UCLA.

so… the lowest of the low… 1600 had a bad headache, even tough that’s not a real excuse for such a crapy score… but I’m taking again in janurai and aiming for atleast over 1900… any tips on how to get my score up?

^ I can totally relate. I was at about 5th or 6th section when I got really dizzy and couldn’t focus AT ALL so I omitted like 3 or 4 questions and probably got few more wrong :S I’m sure this ended up costing me about 100 pts.

Usually what helps is focusing on one section at a time. Work really hard on the weakest one and then move up to the area that is your strongest.

My scores (a bit on the low side):

2000: M 670 CR 670 W 660

And so far the only Macedonian around here from what I’ve noticed, although I think I saw some other people from the Balkans :)

Hey! Looking at the SAT scores everyone has got I have only one thing to say: “Those are some impressive set of numbers!”

Well I did horribly bad as compared to these scores:
SAT I: 590 CR; 670 Maths; 640 Writing
SAT II: 720 Maths 2; 700 Physics

I have always been horrible at objective stuff but make up for it with subjective stuff:
ICSE (Grade 10 All India exams): 95.6% !
IB: Maths HL (6); Physics HL (6); Chemistry HL (6); English A1 SL (6); ESS SL (7); Mandarin Ab Initio (7)

I had applied for Mechanical Engineering course for Fall 2010 and got “accepted” by:
- UM-ann arbor
- Purdue
- Georgia Tech
- Illinois- Urbana Champaign
- Kettering
- Franklin W.Olin
- HKSUT
- Rose-Hulman

Waiting for:
- UCB
- Cornell
- Carnegie Mellon
- Rice

So far only Cooper Union has rejected me, indirectly, by giving me a deferred… Which is kind of sad cause it was my first choice! But the others made up for it :)

^ Hey, it’s not over yet with Cooper Union. Plus, you’ve got some great choices - UMich, Georgia Tech, they’re great for Mechanical Engineering. My cousin graduated from UMich with a degree in Mech Eng, then she worked for GM and went to Harvard for her MBA.

dominik, I am no genius, however, I do have knack for learning languages which is why I think I was able to get a good score on verbal sections despite my English-third-lang status. As for the math section, it’s not that hard if you look at it after doing anything more advanced; most important is not to make silly mistakes.
I’d say my preparation was not that extensive; I did practice tests, made some flash cards, read Direct Hits (really helpful), and learned a few new concepts, but that was all I did specifically for the test.
If you have the time, I’d recommend reading challenging literature to improve your CR. My reading comprehension improved significantly after I read some classics.
I’m not really sure about preparation for Math and Writing sections since I didn’t do much to improve in them, but there should be lots of good advice in the SAT Prep board.

We should create a thread with SAT advice for international students. Seeing that people posting in this thread have some solid scores I think we could give “new” international students a helping hand in conquering the SAT with a bit more focus on scoring well in the sections that are harder for international students in particular.
