International Scholarships

Hey, guys. I am a female from Pakistan and I am looking into colleges in the US.
My parents could afford international fees till I was a sophomore in high school, but then my dad lost his job.
Anyways, I was wondering if there any US colleges that are generous with aid for international students.
I want to study Economics and I have been looking at liberal art schools, but of course everything is super competitive especially when you're an international student with huge financial aid needs.
My SAT score is 2210 (Cr: 730, Writing: 700, Math: 780) and SAT 2s: Math II: 700 and Chemistry: 770
My ECs aren't that great. But I have extensive volunteering experience, I am on my school's MUN team, and on the softball team.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

So, are you saying that your parents can’t pay any school costs at all? or how much can they pay?

It’s very hard to get into a full need school as an int’l.

There are a limited number of colleges and universities that guarantee merit-based aid for students with SAT scores like yours, provided the student’s grades are in that same type of range. These aren’t the liberal arts colleges that you’ve been looking at so far, but might work for you. Take a look at all of the threads linked to this one, and see if you find anything that could work for you: <a href=“Links to Popular Threads on Scholarships and Lower-Cost Colleges - Financial Aid and Scholarships - College Confidential Forums”>Links to Popular Threads on Scholarships and Lower-Cost Colleges - Financial Aid and Scholarships - College Confidential Forums;

Yes, OP, how much can your parents pay? Your odds would be much better if you could pay half the cost of attendance, for instance. This detail is very important.

My parents can afford around $10,000 maybe $15 k.

Are there any low tuition universities/colleges that give aid to internationals, maybe?

Apply to Earlham. You will be able to afford to go here for sure, and you will definitely get in as long as your essays aren’t terrible.

Note: Earlham gives half tuition in merit and half tuition-ish in need-based aid. They do not write about this on their website.

For International students there are six need blind universities in USA. Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, Dartmouth and Amherst. Obviously they are very tough to get into. All of them meet 100% financial aid, if admitted. Good LUck

All of the UMaine colleges give great 4 year merit aid to internationals. The best price after merit aid are UMaine Fort Kent or Presque Isle which come in at $16,000. UMaine-Farmington is a public LAC but after aid you are looking at $23,000. You are so smart though that you surely would qualify for additional scholarships. Could be an option for you.

Also there might be time left for Alabama.

Alabama would give you free tuition for your stats IF you apply SOON…the deadline is Dec 15, but you’re an int’l, so you’d need to apply NOW to give your transcripts a chance to get here. The app is VERY EASY…no essays, no LORs…

Alabama has its Econ major within two colleges…In the B-school as well as in A&S. I think one is more math heavy.

U of Alabama-full tuition for CR+math 1400+ and GPA 3.5
Then, you will need about 23k(dorm, health care, personal expense, etc) for your visa and I20 application. You won’t actually use 23k per year but the school wants you to have this much money.

Howard University-Full tuition+room+book voucher 500$, board for 3.5GPA+ and math+CR 1400+

LSU-full ride for 3.5 GPA and SAT Critical reading+math 1330+ and essay required.(They say they offer traditional scholarship to int kids with SAT/ACT. Ask the admission)

Read this link and pick ones you like. Then call the admission. GOOD LUCK!!!

Um…no Admission371. For international students there are six schools that are BOTH need blind for admissions AND meet full need for all accepted international students.

There are many other schools that are need blind for admissions. But only these six guarantee to meet full need.

“many”? Only if you count the schools that do not offer any aid to internationals.

It is true that there are schools that are need aware for international students, and not others. But my point above…there are plenty of need blind schools in addition to the six listed in post 7. The problem is those others don’t meet full need guaranteed also.
