Pratt Institute is not listed, and Pratt awarded 15,000 scholarships last year to international students. This year, the top award will be $20,000.

Not quite true. If you don’t have a Social Security Number, it means A) you’re an international applicant, B) you don’t have a job. You can still get financial aid from the school itself. On the other hand, you’re not eligible for federal aid/loans, since you’re an international student. But you already knew, that, right?

I’m in somewhat the same boat as Arseus,
the most I’d be able to pay would be through whatever job i would do in the summer or during uni.

My SAT is 2280, top 1% of graduating class, lots of ec’s, I have always dreamed of going to an ivy league school. but i think most schools are not need blind? should i take loans instead, seeing as only a few hundred (at MOST) get financial aid, and im sure people with better stats than me are applying?

[Intlscholarships: International Scholarships - International Financial Aid USA](http://intlscholarships.googlepages.com/needbased)
Just thought the site might’ve been missed being buried under all these posts. But what’s with the “Other colleges with substantial financial aid or full scholarships”? How are they different from the schools above it? Are they need-aware in admissions?

And also do you think I should apply to Cornell…? I really want to add an Ivy in my list but my stats are horrible…and I need full aid…and I’ve heard that Cornell’s aid isn’t that good, but has Cornell EVER given Full Aid to any International Student?

NO job experience. I tried to get a job during summer holidays, but unfortunately even university graduates here have a hard time getting a job as a waitress so…there isn’t much chance at all for a hs student…huh.

Also do you think TOEFL scores will count for anything at all…because my SAT Verbal is just…ew.

Help.

For the schools with little but generous aid, do they look for applicants that have a sense of direction, that really know what they are going to do and focus on it in college, like theatre…etc? Or do the applicants that have good stats but are not sure about their majors have a chance too? I’ll be needing a full ride…

I see we’re all just building up questions here…
@internazionale
Go to the link I gave in #224. I also suggest Lafayette, Knox and RPI, my friends all got in with FA in ED…
@stuntburn
Do you mean Cornell or just general?

I feel as if I’ve stopped the thread.
Look here people there’s a ton of questions!

Hi there!
I’ve made a serious mistake on my ISFAA form. I’ve sent it a couple of days ago and my parents forgot to SIGN it. I wonder if I should resend another form or wait for colleges to contact me…Either way, would my profile look VERY bad?
anyone…? plz plz plz help!!! thanks in advance

hey guys…i’m being the official meaning of butting in perhaps but i gotta ask this…
im a legacy international student(brown univ)(third generation,is the terminology right?)…straight A’s in A and O levels…2310 on the SAT…decent extra curriculars…i’m not trying to be ostentatious but i rather think that theres an OK chance of me getting accepted at brown…so in the case that i get accepted at brown, what are the chances of getting financial aid, and how much?..

I noticed as I was browsing through this thread that some international students seem to think they can go to yale, havard and other ivy league colleges because they have good grades and actually believe they can get enough financial aid to pay for their fees. honestly, get real. if you want to go to college in america its gonna be difficult and expensive either way, stop dreaming about med school or the nations, if not worlds, top colleges, esp. if you cant even afford ‘normal’ college. its very difficult for american students to get into med school in their own country, why in the world would Universities give those limited places away to foreign students? and why should colleges like yale give away scholarships for like $50.000 a year which is how much it costs to attend colleges like that, to students from foreign countries who will most likely go back home after graduating. seriously, get informed and be more realistic when considering going to college abroad. Im an international student myself and Im working to pay for my own tuition fees right now so I can get a MA in California in a few years. And im not even gonna try getting into USC or Berkely, any CalState college would be more than fine for me. Everyone else has to pay for college, Americans work extremely hard to be able to send their kids to college, and it seems like a lot of international students think they should get to go for free or cheap because they ‘had good grades in high school’? Just wake up, thats all im saying. I mean at the top of this thread theres a german girl who obviously doesnt speak great english but wants to get a scholarship for yale. And I have a sneaky suspicion shes not even joking.

@angie85…maybe you are right about that german girl but many of the things uve said are quite inaccurate…top universities want to create a culturally diverse atmosphere and want their name to spread out into the world… many int’l students get admissions AND scholarships at harvard and yale, those who DESERVE…and a lot of people work hard and many of them arent americans…and i too have a sneaky suspicion, that u wanted to but couldnt get into a great univ…:)

nope I actually graduated with an honours degree in August and didnt pay any fees cause i had a scholarship for the full 4 years. And my University was pretty amazing, Id go back any day. yep, im sure most students at yale dont even pay the fees, esp. not the international ones, they only put the tuition fees section on their website to make it look better. And good luck at Brown Im suuuuure theyre just sitting around waiting for your application to come in, theyll arrange a pick up service to get you from the airport too lol seriously youre exactly that kinda student I was talking about

lol… i knew somethng lyk that was coming…actually, i dont disagree with u saying that people shud wake up and be realistic…and i never sed that brown wud surely accept me…but if u want to be sarcastic and stubborn, its up to you…

lol ok…ill do that then. btw youre the one that started making random accusations, Ive never even applied to any Masters programmes yet cause I havent saved up the money yet. Good luck at Browns anyway, hope you get in.

However, I AM right about not many international students getting scholarships, esp. not to colleges like that. unfortunately. and a lot of them have unrealistic expectations too. but nothings impossible.

heres another accusation then: ur english isnt perfct…
and that last commnt wasnt an accusation…that was a joke, as is the commnt above…thats why i put a ‘’:)‘’ at the end!..
and that was my point that nothing’s impossible…and u were going completely opposite to it…thats y i replied in the first place…

i’ve no idea why angie85 is so bitter about such things. U probably have not seen the world and think that every international students out here are just pampered naive faggots waiting for the big ivies to give us scholarship to study in their schools. U SHUD GET REAL. many of us international applicants are not born with a silver spoon just like you and some of the poorer americans applying to college. we worked real hard in high schools, dont have a car to go to school, have to take a hour-ride bus to school, never been to another country, some lived with broken family, some even have harsh socio-economic circumstances in their own country - and in the end even if they are given scholarships to study in US, THEY JOLLY WELL DESERVE IT. so u shud just shut the xxck up and stop being bitter in life. gosh hate people who blatantly generalize our sophisticated society.

and even if they have unrealistic expectations, who are u to judge them, u are merely a reader on CC and u dont even noe their backgrounds and godknows what other difficult circumstances they have. Just because u choose to be less risky/adventurous when it comes to applying for colleges, then its your OWN choice. shut up and dont interfere with other people’s decisions for their own life - even if they were to fail, so be it, and they ll have to learn from it.

Gosh this is ****ing me off.

sixfoottall i love ur commnt…:)

just speaking out for the many international applicants who are also in a difficult position. :)

Hey all …

I am 19, a transfer student from a junior college (already inside the United States), and currently applying to four-year universities for fall 2010. Students of ages 14-17 have way too much pressure on them here - it’s so crazy.

Yes, I admit it is often frustrating to find that most U.S. colleges (at least the known ones) can be intimidating and may at times seem out of reach. Yet … what really terrifies me is that sense of pressure, extreme competition, stress, lack of reality and the importance placed on test scores, only. Call me naive, … but I am certain that I will succeed just for who I am.

Do not forget who you are, why you seek education, and I advice you to sit down and really think about what the essence of your being is and tell them your story. You are suffering from a financial crisis? Then show them your strength! It takes courage to continue dreaming even though there have been many barriers in your life.

All I have is myself, my experience and unique set of values. Sell yourself well, be proud but not arrogant, and you will be able reach all your goals. Even if you don’t get into a “top university” (whatever that is to you), there is always a place for you.

Good luck to all. I know those essays can take a lot of time!

What are you guys doing if you don’t get into any Uni’s with financial aid? I suggest we have a Plan B!

and also i forgot to add this to speak up for qwerty11 and the rest of the applicants out here:

Angie85, you must have been one of those rejects; I weep for you. But there are those who go there and make it and return to their countries to do good; education is hardly ever selfish. It is great that American colleges continue to offer financial assistance to people who might deserve and need it; although apparently not you, otherwise you would not grow up so bitter and misinformed.

I will continue to weep for you.
