I need a second opinion. My dad wants to put different figures in the 'how much do you plan to contribute?' space. E.g. put (hypothetically) 1000$ if a school is need-blind and 15000$ if it's need-aware. That's not really cheating, cause the income will remain the same anyway. The question is will need-blind schools continue their totally need-blind policy with the whole crisis thing? Nobody wants to go broke so...should I listen to my dad?

Iuileb, my mom wants to do that too. wouldn't we get into deep **** for that? I'm very sceptical...

btw privjet! :D mnje očinj rad kagda ja vižu nekavo iz maji časti evrope.

I made up my mind. I don't think we'll be in trouble cause
a)technically that won't be a lie
b)it's not up to us to make a final decision as to how much aid we'll get c)lol I forgot с while typing b

That's not nice, that means competition :D Anyway I know what you mean

I'm a student from South Africa. My SATs are not out yet but should be above 2200. I'm involved in lots of activities and I'm one of the top students in my province, but lack leadership positions. What are my chances of getting into a good college with financial aid? What should I do to improve my chances?

I'm an international student. Is it easier to get into Brandeis or Williams with financial aid if I apply ED?

With Williams, Bowdoin, Middlesbury... and similar schools complete 100% demonstrated need. (But they are not need-blind) So, the admission decision will be affected with your demonstrated need!

Well, Williams is need-blind toward international applicants. Middlebury used to offer very generous financial aid, but they have changed their policy now (at least for this year) in the wake of the financial crisis. They will be substantially reducing their financial aid budget for incoming international freshmans. So, I guess, this year not many international students will get fin aid from Mid.

@ julienyu : Again, Brandeis is suffering financially this year because of a reduced endowment and lack of donations. In fact, it has decided to close down its acclaimed museum and will be increasing the class size substantially to increase its revenue. So, if you are someone who will be paying the full cost of attendance, Brandeis is a good option even if your stats are slightly average for them. (They might accept you for the money.) As I have said, Williams is need-blind, so your aid status will not hinder your chances, but Williams is much much more competitive than Brandeis. Therefore, getting into either one of them with aid will be extremely difficult, unless, of course, you have stellar stats, amazing essays etc.

I think Brandeis defers international ED applicants who seek substantial aid. So, if you want to apply ed, apply someone where they wont at least defer you only for the aid. I think Williams is a better option for ed than Brandeis.

hi...to apply for financial aid ..what is the procedure for internationals??

1) Fill the International Financial Aid Form for International students
2) Fill the Certificate of Finances
3) Send them with your (school) commonapp forms, transcripts, RECs, etc through a courier service

thanks mate..

How about fin aid for international transfers? Is there any colleges that give a fin aid for international transfers?

I know that Rice and Columbia do, I know a transfer girl who applyed there.

Does anyone know about financial aid for international students (especially intl transfers) at Washington University in St Louis? Do people often get full tuition?

When do I send off the FA forms?

You need to check the university website and see what their deadline is.

Admissions > Internationals > Financial Aid

what does international transfer mean exactly ?
1, an international student finishes 2 year in a US community college and then transfer ?
2, or an international doing whatever year in a college other than US want to transfer to a US school?

Anyway, given I am the first case, and hypothetically speaking, I can get at least 3.9 cumulative GPA and 4.0 in prereq courses, besides school performance, my extracurricular activities are medicore: 1, member of school economics/political science club ( which Im pretty sure that I couldn't get into any of the leadership position - I enjoy it though ) 2, run a little online business which selling laptop skins 3, not done any but I could do some community services if it helps.

What are my chances to get into a college with a good business/finance program ( top 100 let say ) and willing to give out financial aid ( I can only afford about 15k-18k/year for the remaining 2 years after transferring )

Any suggestions on schools ? Or anything else that could help strengthen my application?
