International Student Aid

Hey Board....I'm an international student from India looking at universities in the US for my undergraduate studies in Accountancy / Economics.

I'd like to know what the financial aid procedure is...whether it is need-blind or heavily dependent on ability to pay. Could you please indicate the policy at the following universities: (I've grouped them according to their reputation and public / private status)

a. Harvard / Stanford / Yale / Princeton / UPenn (Wharton)
b. New York University (Stern) / Northwestern / Carnegie Mellon
c. UT Austin / UM Ann Arbor / UI Urbana Champaign

Also, if I am admitted and eligible for aid, how much am I likely to get at these universities? I think I'd be looking at a figure of $15,000 tuition fees that I can fund on my own.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Only Harvard,Yale ,Princeton, MIT are need blind for international students.

Carnegie Mellon does not give ANY AID whatsoever to internationals,I think NYU too...

UIUC and UMich also do not give any aid initially, but I think you can get merit aid after yor first semester or something.....

The best thing to do is to check the financial aid sections on each university's web site. The universities' policies differ widely.

Many universities post on their web sites financial aid information that's specific for international applicants. If you have further questions, just e-mail them. That would give you better overall info than you'd get on a message board.

Where CC could help you would be helping you hear about the experiences of individual international applicants at specific colleges. I imagine that our international board woudl be good for that info.

I doubt that NYU is generous with internationals since they are notoriously stingy even with American ones.

Thanks, will do that. I've looked up College Board and university stats, I'm quite prepared with those. I just came onto CC wondering if folks could provide me Ground Zero realities

You must keep in mind that there are only a small handful of schools that are both need blind and will meet 100% of your demonstrated need. The International pool of applicants is very large and competitive with 100 or less students being admitted to a midsize/large school (numbers are even smaller at LACs (liberal Arts Colleges)

This is helpful for undergraduates. Follow the link:
