<p>Hi, I'm a student from Australia, more accurately I'm from Perth. This year im in Year 11, or the second last year of high school. Im planning on applying to some american universities such as Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, NYU and Columbia.
There were two things ive been wondering about. The first thing is when I should apply. We start school in February/March and s it better for me to apply at the end of year eleven, November 2011, or at the end of year twelve, November 2012.
The second thins was, I was wondering if there are any criteria I would be expected to meet, apart from being really really good. More specifically, what sort of extra-curriculars and community service should i participate in?
Oh, and one more thing. How many questions can i answer wrongly in the SAT I and still obtain full marks?
If anyone can answer these questions clearly, I would be really grateful.
THANKS!</p>
<p>You should start by reading through everything (and I do indeed mean everything) at [EducationUSA</a> | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](<a href=“http://www.educationusa.info/]EducationUSA”>http://www.educationusa.info/) Then make an appointment with the counselors at the advising center in Perth [EducationUSA</a> - Center Profile - EducationUSA Perth](<a href=“http://www.educationusa.info/perth]EducationUSA”>http://www.educationusa.info/perth) They are expert at helping students from your area find good places to study in the US.</p>
<p>When to apply depends on when you would want to start your studies. You need to read through the websites of each of these universities to find out whether they admit students in January, or only in September. If they only have fall admissions, you would apply during your very last term of year 12 in order to begin classes in September of 2013. If they have winter/spring admissions, you would begin your applications a bit earlier in year 12 in order to begin classes in January 2013.</p>
