S is an international student applying Physics and CCS. SAT 1st take 2180 & 2nd take 2390; AP calculus BC 5, Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism 5, Mechanic 5; Subject Tests 800 each for Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Don’t know how to convert GPA. Is he safety for Physics or even CCS admission? Thanks.
He’s probably at the very least a low reach, but most likely a match.
@hondapower2.2L, thanks.
Letter of intent and work in evidence of talent/interest in the chosen major at CCS seem to be a lot more important than just grades / SATs at CCS. That is the impression I got when we visited CCS with my daughter.
@khanam, thanks for the information.
Chance could be less to my son if evidence of talent is A LOT MORE important than just grades/SATs scores at CCS (although it states in their website that it is not required for Physics). Resources supporting independent research, scientific reports or projects are finite in Hong Kong. I am glad that he did research work in college during summer holiday, but idk how many and how deep the work he had done.
My son is mature and indepentent. At CCS, students meet quarterly with their faculty advisor to plan a program of study that is tailored to the student’s individual strengths and goals. This is good for him.
After working hard on essays in these several months for other colleges, he can focus on the letter of intent to express his passion for Physics. Hope it helps.
Just for my curiosity, where did your daughter go finally?
@twosonspa have you and your son considered non-CCS physics? It’s still a really good option at UCSB.
Yes, but if he is accepted by more than one school, we need to compare the difference in cost.
@twosonspa sorry for the late reply. she applied for fall 2016 admissions. CCS is one of her top choices.
Good luck to her!
My son is yet to receive CCS physics accept or reject email. Should international students get notitification later? Thanks.
This is what it says on the website. I would contact them if he applied before 2/19.
“CCS will be sending admission decisions between March 23rd and March 25th to those students who applied on or before Friday, February 19th. If you submitted your application by that date and do not hear from us by March 28, please contact us to verify completion of your application. If you applied after February 19th, we will email decisions as they become available on a rolling basis.”
Thanks. He did apply before Feb 19 and send email on March 28. Waiting reply now.
