International student - chance me?

<p>I'm half American, half South African, born in US, living in South Africa (hoping its my hook?) Applying RD for CAS, chance me?</p>

<p>SAT:
CR - 800
W - 790/ 10 essay
M - 610 (I can't do maths fast..I get As at school though)</p>

<p>Subject tests:
Lit - 780
US Hist - 670</p>

<p>GPA:
3.56 (Was 4.0 but my mom was in ICU in Germany 1st semester 11th grade, I was looking after my family, got mono and pneumonia, had to be hospitalised, also suffer from chronic migraine syndrome..blegh. I know it really jeopardizes me but I have letters from my counselor and doctors letters)</p>

<p>APs: only became available at my school this year, doing all 3 offered, haven't taken exams yet.</p>

<p>Recs: counselor: good, teachers (both from Harvard) AMAZING!!, one called me a genius :P lol</p>

<p>Awards: about 20 school awards</p>

<p>ECs:
- drama club, 9th and 10th
- hiking club, 10th, 11th, 12th
- student council: 11th grade rep, community service coordinator this year
- Model UN, 4 international conferences incl. to Russia and Cairo, chair of debate (12th, 12th)
- general knowledge comps, math olympiad, english olympiad (9th, 12th)
- community service 200 hours +/-</p>

<p>Also, have my own fashion label/business since I was 14, sold in about 3 fashion boutiques, was in a local designer fashion show, 10% of profits go to literacy charities. Worked in a jewelry store for 3 years on weekends to pay for my Model UN trips abroad. Did 2 homestays and summer Spanish schools in Spain. Did 3 summer courses in photography and 1 in fashion design at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in London.</p>

<p>you can definitely try. your GPA’s fine as long as you explain it well. try to elaborate on your ecs (the fashion biz thing sounds really cool) and good luck~</p>

<p>I really hope you’re right! It sucked at the time, but family comes first.</p>

<p>Re: Recs…both my teachers really loved me, so they emailed me copies of their letters after they’d sent them. I think quite a few teachers do that, well, if they wrote nice stuff :)</p>

<p>the fashion thingy is really unique, taking care of ur familly should make u stand out too</p>

<p>and ur other records looks like those of the IVY kids</p>

<p>I really hope so! Its like my number 2… My main Common App essay is about my fashion business so hopefully, it explains and sets me apart?</p>
