Hi, I’m a current senior from South Korea, and I have been attending a small, private high school in the USA but my passport is still Korean so I fall under the “international student” category.
My current top choice school is NYU, specifically Steinhardt for the Media, Culture, and Communications major.
I will be applying Early Decision, and I am NOT applying for Financial Aid.
GPA (UW) - 95/100 which I guess puts me around a 3.8? (top 22%)
SAT - 2110
AP: I’ve taken 2 AP classes and several honors courses so far, and I’m taking another 2 AP and several honors classes this year. My school doesn’t have that many AP classes so this courseload is about as challenging as I can go.
Extracurriculars:
-I have about 120 hours of volunteering at a non-governmental organization, translating documents and writing articles for their website.
-I was an intern this past summer at a company in korea, helping the PR team with office work and brainstorming advertising ideas.
-I’m very involved in my school’s theatre department; i’ve been in all the musicals and am vice president of the drama club, and I am a member of the International Thespian Society (honor society for drama people)
-I am NHS secretary, and I’m also in Mu Alpha Theta (math honor society)
-I also hold leadership positions in a few other small clubs.
Essay: I’d say my personal statement is about an 8/10.
Recommendations: Probably 8/10?
Awards: honor roll for 4 years, and I placed in the national french exam twice. (honorable mention & bronze medal) other than that, just small school awards for high grades and stuff, not much more.
What are my chances for NYU Steinhardt?
My stats seem kinda “meh” to me, and the fact that I’m an international student (asian, no less!) doesn’t make me feel any better about my chances.
But I know Steinhardt isn’t like Stern or anything, and I also have the advantage of not applying for financial aid.
Please chance me! I’m quite literally drowning in anxiety here. I will definitely chance you back if you’d like.
Thanks.
