International student chances thread

@vulcatim Great to hear that, thx for the info. My current major is Business Administration and I am applying to Agribusiness. My GPA at the time of applying was 3.82 (it’s 3.78 now) and I will be done with all GE classes and prerequisites at the end of Winter Quarter (I am on quarter system). At the time of applying I had three required classes in progress and one GE class in progress. What about you?

@InternStudent‌ I applied as a Mechanical Engineering major. My GPA is 3.95. I will be done with all the required classes by this semester, and I will be missing two desired classes for my major. Good muck man!

Hey, have you guys heard back yet?

@yengkerng‌ Not yet. Hopefully next week!!
Have you?

@vulcatim‌ not yet, aren’t we suppose to hear back before 1st of april?

Have any of you international applicants heard yet?? I still haven’t heard! I thought Cal Poly’s absolute deadline for sending out decisions was the April 1st.

Pretty strange in all honesty…

Right? Ah I’m freaking out.

Hey, Cal Poly had delayed the decision notification for int’l applicants because they were still processing the int’l applications. I asked one of the admission counselors about it.

But,
I just got my decision today! I thought some of you might be interested in knowing:

ACCEPTED
Major: Computer Science
SAT: 1910
GPA: ~3.6 (but the course I’m taking (CIE A-Levels) doesn’t follow GPA, so it’s an approximate)

All the best to all of you! Remember that not all hope’s lost if you got rejected, there are so many others like Cal Poly-some even better- so don’t give up!

I hope y’all could post your own admission decisions- at least for the reference of future applicants.

Congratulations @Danz1ty‌ .
I called the admitions today, and they said that the process for internationals has been delayed. They checked my application and they said that it is complete and ready to be processed. They then put an application to expedite my admission decision process.

@Danz1ty‌ May I ask where you’re from? It’s rare to hear from people that did the CIE A Level syllabus, which is exactly what I did.

Thank you @vulcatim‌
It is odd how the notifications are delayed like this. I thought that all International applicants would have received their decisions at the same time, at least.
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck and I hope you could get in too!

@‌yengkerng From Malaysia too!

What are the odds, eh?

Rare? Probably for students outside of Malaysia, it’s pretty common at where I’m from.

@Danz1ty‌ Wait are you freaking serious?

There are only 2 Malaysians in Cal Poly (besides myself) right now. A levels are really common in Malaysia, but it is pretty much unheard here. Ask any random american and see what response you’ll get.

Where are you from btw? Kuala Lumpur? Penang? PJ?

i am applying for mechanical engineering as an international student. my stats is : SAT I:750+570(Math+CR) TOEFL: 102 ACT:English:28 Math 35 Reading:26(they said they only look at math and english, i am not sure that english means english or reading) GPA:4.1. Can someone chance me please??

@yengkerng‌ and @Danz1ty‌

I did A levels too! I’m from Pakistan though. Didn’t you just hate A levels? Lol

@yengkerng‌ Just 2 others?? Yes, I’m not joking. From Penang. You?

@GrimTim91‌ Who doesn’t? I’m still going through it though.

@amyshengting‌ I don’t really know how to go about chancing but I can tell you that your GPA is pretty high and would most likely boost your application. Your SAT Math+CR score is also around where mine was. In my opinion, you have a pretty good shot in getting in- but, you can never tell with this school (or any for that matter). I don’t know what factors they put significance on for an international applicant. Apparently, they strongly consider the rigour of high school coursework- that’s where the academic evaluation comes in to help, I’m guessing. So your application depends on that too.
To be honest, I don’t think asking people to chance your application can really help you at this point. You either get false hope or false disappointment- none of that’s good. I tried what I can but at the end of the day, the university makes the final decision. Whatever the case, I wish you all the best! I know it must be really frustrating to play the waiting game- I was refreshing the portal every 5 minutes! Good luck to you!

@Danz1ty‌ i just get worried… i just don’t know when the decision will come out… hopefully next week. I go to high school in US. I am taking three APs this year and 2 APs last year. Anyway, thank you so much!

Has anyone else heard yet?
