I'm wanting to apply to top schools, but my family is absolutely broke... so I need to apply for financial aid to be able to come to the states. How do my grades look for those schools? My ECs are NOT spectacular, as I was from a pretty small school where I didn't have the opportunities for Math Olympian, w/e. I DID do a lot, but I don't know if it's enough. :/ As I said, I AM an international student, so I really don't know how that will affect my chances in the US... and I would hate to waste more money in applying to schools where I have no chance of getting accepted and getting financial aid. **I COULD retake the ACT (I originally took it in April 2008) and I think I might get a slightly better score, but I need to register BY TOMORROW! I need to know how much one or two more points would affect acceptance! **I will also take suggestions for other schools that would suit me! Thanks for all the help, guys!

Don’t bother to retake the ACT. Your score is high enough, and your grades are great. The problem is that it’s really hard for internationals to get accepted with aid. Are you applying as a transfer student? What kind of school is your Finnish school? You can’t apply as a freshman if you have enrolled in a college.

No, I am applying as a freshman student. I haven’t attended a post-secondary school (college)… my current school is a high school in Finland. (So technically I have two high school records, from two different countries) Basically, being Finnish is not going to aid me in getting accepted in the US, but will deter it. :frowning: Great. Are my grades good enough that I could still apply and have a fair shot? The international status will obviously deter me from getting accepted… but do they think I’m “smart enough” to take me? So confused…
