I'm an international student going to apply to universities next fall. I'm facing problems regarding my financial situation. I can afford to pay like 13-15k per year if I get a part time job on campus I'm hoping to make a contribution of 6k per year). The problem is the colleges are going to ask me to submit CSS profile instead of ISFAA. If I submit CSS profile alone, my expected family contribution will be 0$ per year and for this reason, I'm not going to get into anywhere because most of my universities are need aware. So, I'm in trouble. What should I do to get a solution of this problem? Should I submit CSS profile along with ISFAA? cause I'm not going to get into anywhere because of my CSS profile. i need to find out information of this question as my father will need to open income tax profile.

“If I submit CSS profile alone, my expected family contribution will be 0$ per year and for this reason, I’m not going to get into anywhere because most of my universities are need aware.”

You do not know that for a fact. Some of the need-aware institutions will throw plenty of money at someone that they really want.

In order to get your student visa, you will have to convince the visa officer that you truly have the money available to pay for your education. There is no guarantee that you can get an on-campus job once you are here. Take that figure out of your calculations right now.

Yes, you will be at a disadvantage at those schools that are need aware in admissions for you if you ask for financial aid. But most colleges know that one does have to meet the need of all international students accepted because they cannot possibly come unless they show to Immigration on a required form that they can pay for the year to get that student visa. It’s not just the school you have to convince that you can afford studying in the US. You need to show with certifications and notarized signatures where you are getting your money to be able to afford to come to this country. The school will list the financial aid and their awards, but then you have to list how you are paying for your share, and the possibility of a job when you get here is not going to cut it. Nope, not one bit. It has to be a sure certifiable thing.

Many international students have posted trying to see how they can have their cake and eat it too. You either have the need, or you don’t. If you want to apply to a college as a full pay student and, yes, it does increase your chances of acceptance at most of them if you don’t need financial aid, then you are not going to get any money from the school. You have to come up with the funds from your family, your country, your bank, somewhere, and list them on a form with official stamps and signatures verifying that the funds are there, the loans are made, the salaries are true in order to get a Student Visa. Not the school’s rules, by the way, but the rules of this country, and many countries if ne wants to have an extended stay.

If you want to take the chance, then apply to, say, a half dozen schools as full pay, and another half dozen as full need and see what you get. If you only get accepted to the schools where you say you are full pay, then it’s your problem to come up with the available funds to show US Immigration to get that student visa, and forget about the colleges helping since you have said you are not applying for financial aid.

But be aware that need aware in admissions does not mean that no one with need will get accepted. It just means that the need is taken into account. And those who do get accepted with need, tend to get that need met. The school has a set amount they will spend on international students’ financial aid and that is it. Just make sure you don’t apply to those schools that specifically give zero aid and have no merit available for international students because at such schools, your chances are indeed zilch that you will get anything.

So, what is the solution? I should apply with a yearly income of my parents who have a annual income of 4k? Most of the expenses are going to come from my parent’s assets.

How else are you thinking of applying? Where would you get the money if you were accepted and got zero in financial aid which could very well happen if you don’t fill out the forms and let them know? The schools are not going to relent and come up with the money when you did not follow the procedures as they have in their instructions. If they did, all international students would do that. The money will go to those who apply for it, and when that’s gone, that’s it. The school is also not going to come up with a guaranteed job for you. In fact, as an international student, you may find your work options limited. But you have to show to Imiigration, that you have the money to come to the US to study. If your family does not have the money, you don’t have the money, you don’t have a sponsor who will certify the funds, your country won’t pay, and you cannot borrow the money–all of the funds wiil have to be in place and certified, by the way, then you can’t afford to come to the US for school.

The only possibility I see is for you to apply for financial aid up front and hope that you get accepted and get enough money from the school for you to afford to come there. Then the school will certify what it has awarded you for your Student Visa. Yes, you have an additional impediment that someone with money does not have who is applying. The same situation occurs for those students in the US who are applying to school that are need aware for admissions, and actually for US students what happens quite often is that they may get accepted but not get enough money to attend because very few schools in this country guarantee to meet financial need. Happens all of the time. Then the student cannot go to that school. SImple as that. You have to get the acceptance AND the money. What good is just getting an acceptance going to do for you?

IF you truly thing an acceptance without the money is workable–that with an acceptance you can come up with the money in your country, then apply to some schools without asking for financial aid. IF you do get accepted to any of them, you then have to figure out where to get the money, and it won’t be from the school since you did not apply for the money as the instructions direct.
