Hi all!
I am an international student considering applying to Wesleyan, so I want to know how much of the money of the scholarship you received is considered as a loan?
Well…these come from the wesleyan website under international student financial aid:
“ Wesleyan and US federally sponsored financial aid are available to US citizens and permanent residents. … We expect to offer financial assistance to approximately 30 international citizens from a pool of approximately 1100 international applicants applying for financial aid .”
And:
“ Financial aid for international students (i.e., students who are not US citizens or permanent residents of the US), is extremely limited and is awarded on the basis of both exceptional qualifications and demonstrated need. In addition to the 11 Freeman Asian Scholars, we expect to offer need-based financial assistance to approximately 30 foreign students from a pool of approximately 1000 such applicants. As an international student, in order to receive financial aid during your years at Wesleyan, you MUST apply for financial aid and be eligible at the time that you apply for admission.”
They clearly state that financial aid for international students is extremely limited.
Re: loans…as an international student, you are not eligible for the federally funded Direct Loan or Parent Plus Loans. What loans would you be talking about other than these…which I believe are the only loans domestic students are eligible for through the university financial aid process.
As an international student, you would need to get loans in your country.
How much can your parents pay for you to attend college in the United States…without taking out loans?
Wesleyan will award grants-only, need-based, financial aid, if:
-
you are admitted, and
-
your family meets the income requirements; International students will at a minimum have to provide income tax statements and other proof of family income.
The school is also need aware for admissions meaning your level of need will be considered when your application for admission is considered.
How much aid would you need to attend?
All in only 41 international students receive aid…that’s not a big number when more than 1000 apply for admission.
Actually i need full aid.
