Hi! I recently got accepted into trinity college(ED 2) and was offered a financial aid of 42k which includes 37k of trinity grant and 5k of trinity loan.My demonstrated need in my CSS profile was 50k for an annual estimated expenditure of about 60k. The offer is about 8k short of my demonstrated need. Will it help if i ask them to reassess and improve the offer by 5k(i can afford about 11k)? And is loan a compulsory component of every financial aid package?

Which Trinity? Hartford? San Antonio?

Most schools package loans in their financial aid awards.

How do you KNOW what your need was? For institutional aid purposes, the COLLEGE calculates your need. They also calculate how much aid they want to give you from their monies.

CSS Profile doesn’t provide an estimated need. From where are you getting that Profile estimates your need at $50k? And yes, Trinity will probably always package loans for you because they include federal loans in financial aid packages of domestic students.

It’s the one at hartford, connecticut.I have mentioned in my profile that I can afford to pay 10000 USD per annum towards my college expenses.Shouldn’t that be my actual need?I now need to pay about 17k so would it help if i ask the college to reassess and improve the offer?

Colleges calculate your need not you. It does not matter what you think you can pay. All that matters is what the school determines.

Ok so should I email them?

You could try contacting the Financial Aid Office and see what happens.
Your need is determined by the college as others have stated.
Adjustments usually are in small increments, unless your family has special circumstances that you have not told the FA Office about.

Don’t email - CALL!!

Why won’t kids pickup the phone?

(1) Perhaps because of the time difference between India and CT?
(2) Perhaps because of the expense of an overseas call from India to CT?

Why won’t people read the TITLES of threads they decide to post in???

That’s funny. I was just talking to one of our QA analysts in India this morning. He was able to use the phone.

And it was to my office phone from his cell using Skype. Pennies.

India is 10:30 hours ahead of USA
