International Student, Financial Aid/Merit Scholarship?

I am a Canadian citizen in New York State. I am very interested in UNC but from what I read they give no need-based financial aid for international students correct? But what about their wide selection of merit scholarships? Are they available for international students and are there separate applications required?

I am also applying for the University of Rochester which specifically gives Canadian and Mexican citizens financial aid. If anyone knows of any similar schools like that I would appreciate it.

Do you have a green card?

no i do not unfortunately

So you’ll be on an F-1 visa? That will make things very tough for you - you won’t really be able to work off campus, etc.

The only people who can definitively answer your question about UNC are the UNC staff - have you emailed them?

Yes I did recently, and yeah, I won’t be eligible for any financial aid. Best I could do is with some limited merit scholarships based off of application only (not need). Oh well.
