So I'm a Canadian student applying to JHU with need based financial aid. I know that it's significantly more difficult for an international student to get accepted with aid - but how hard is it exactly? Near impossible? Should I even be dreaming about this? I have high scores/gpa/strong ecs but nothing exceptional (USAMO, recruited, wrote a book, cured cancer etc..). Do I even have a chance?

Also, would they ever accept me but not offer aid (or offer very limited aid?). Because that would feel better than getting flat out rejected haha

Both need- and merit-based financial assistance is available for international applicants, although both types of assistance are limited. The admissions process for international students is need-aware, meaning the offer of admission is directly linked to the student’s ability to meet expenses.

[International Student Discussion Thread](<a href=“Taiga ”>Taiga )
The admissions process for international students is need-aware, meaning the offer of admission is directly linked to a student’s ability to meet expenses or financial aid being awarded. An international applicant with financial need who is offered admission will also be offered financial aid. We will meet the full demonstrated need of the applicant in the form of a grant.

However, once we have chosen the select group of international students with financial need that we will be admitting and funding, we are unable to admit any other international students with need. So yes one’s chances as an international student applying for financial aid is impacted by the limited number of students we are able to fund. We are not able to admit an international student who has need if we are not funding that student.

On average, about how many international students with financial aid would you admit each year?

Approximately 10% of international students who apply for financial aid when applying to Johns Hopkins University will receive funding.
