international student from Europe

Hi, my French daughter is attending Smith in the Fall. does anyone know whether the french Baccalaureat corresponds to any APs? (did I get that right?) She wants to major in art history. How good is Smith in that field? Should she plan on taking classes outside smith. I have gathered that SMITH students can take classes in 4 other colleges

Salut!

Here is the information from the Smith website:

International Baccalaureate and Other Diploma Programs

Credit may be awarded for the International Baccalaureate and 13th year programs outside the United States. The registrar, upon review of the final results, determines the amount of credit.

At most colleges that award Advanced Placement credits and Advanced Standing (i.e., sophomore standing), the Bac is the same as the IB. After your daughter's passed her bac, she should send a copy of her diploma to the Smith registrar.

Smith is part of the Five College consortium (including Amherst, Mt Holyoke, Umass-Amherst and Hampshire College) which allows students from one college to take classes at another.

Hope this helps.

thank you. Vous

Marite, are u French? Do u have a kid going to college this year?

^. Not anymore. Yes, at Harvard.
^^It's very different from hypokhagne, but I believe it's a good idea to experience American college life (I did). Smith is a great school.

Thanks again, and congrats for your kid. My D applied since 2 of her grandparents actually met at Harvard/Radcliffe, but she didn't deserve to go as her SAT scores were abysmal. She thought an "odd number" was a weird number in the maths test, never having seen a maths question in English before!
