A big chunk of the fees required by all of the CC's I've looked at so far (in California, at least) include living expenses (rent, food, etc.), and one of the basis of admissions is that you show you have at least approximately $21,000USD in your bank account before you're allowed to enter the US to start school. If I can show that I have relatives willing to provide free room and board would it be possible to bypass that and basically show I have enough for the tuition & supplemental fees? (Although this is unlikely to happen... I have an aunt & uncle somewhere in California but we're not close, having only met each other twice in my life)

$21,000 is still too much for me, I'm afraid. If I am very careful and frugal I don't believe I would have to spend $12,000 on living expenses over 9 months.

So I am thinking... maybe I could take out a loan worth $21,000 just to PROVE that I have access to such funds, but I won't actually spend all of that money. Is this a viable solution?

(I should add I would be an international student... hailing from Canada)
