@gigichuck Nah, I considered it untill they told me it wasn’t full ride, $20k is about $2k higher than my family’s annual income
@41ADAN Me neither? So what does your college list look like right now?
@gigichuck I think I’m going to settle on applaying to the following:
Duke University
University of Alabama Huntsville
MIT
University of Central Arkansas
Rice University (apparently even meets full need, I have to contact them to make sure though). Also, it seems relevant to note that Rice’s acceptance rate is low (23%) and the recommended test scores to have a chance are literally 1600 on SAT.
Rice, MIT and Duke are reaches for everyone, and quite a different caliber from UAB Huntsville and Central Ark.
@41ADAN does UAB Huntsville have merit aid that covers the full cost of attendance?
I’m looking at LACs that meet full need, hence Williams, Swarthmore, Pomona etc.
And your college list seems a little short. Why?
You 2 might consider a backchannel chat.
@jym626 OK. Thanks.
Actually, the information is interesting and useful to other international readers so I think it’s appropriate for this thread.
UAH has automatic and competitive scholarships detailed on their website.
though University of Alabama is a decent option, they have very limited research/academic involvement opportunities for international students. Not sure if this is the same for other schools, but REU is only for permanent residents/citizens.
@jym626 I am fully aware of them being reaches, but so far I have not been able to find any other options.
@gigichuck Well those are the only ones I’ve been able to find that offer majors on MechE or AeroE and have full ride scholarships for internationals. If you know of any other, please send me a private message.
I don’t know of internationals can use raiseme.org - check it out.
What about Wichita State?
Have you looked into UTD McDermott? App State Wilson? Look at Tennessee Tech, Prairie View A&M?
What about Bucknell and Lafayette? They have engineering and “meet need”.
Getting a perfect 1600 or 36, as astronomically minuscule the odds are, typically results in a better award.
@MYOS1634 Thanks for the suggestions, I’m currently checking which of those offer 100% merit scholarships (or even need based aid, although I don’t expect to find it). I’m aware of the difficulty of getting a 1600 in SAT, I took the test once already (plan to take it again in october) and got a 1490, my objective is to get at the very least a 1520, which would make me qualify for full ride at UAH.
I checked raise.me, it does not support students taking graduating outside the US, so unfortunately it’s no use.
-edit-
Turns out UTD is quite the match, and if I get a slightly higher SAT score on my next go I have big chances of getting full ride. I really appreciate the help, wouldn’t have found some of these schools otherwise.
@41ADAN By UTD u mean Uni of Texas at dallas right? i checked their website , no info about a full ride
Look up AES collegiumV and McDermott.
@MYOS1634 im not finding these colleges , any links?
are they even colleges or programs im confused lol…
ah crap my bad they are programs
@Barekk in case you haven’t found it yet, here’s the link to UTD’s full ride award: http://www.utdallas.edu/mcdermott/about/award
That award is really competitive
All full rides are really competitive.
