International student looking into US colleges

Alright, so a scout from Upper90 college recently came to Malaysia to asses me and a couple of team mates on our soccer. This happened over two days of two seperate sessions. About a week or so later we received our assesment back, and the scout is saying I can play at the NCAA Division 2 level. However, my parents aren't too sure about following through with this, as it requires a payment of USD 2500. They think it may be a scam and that they will not market me, take the money and leave. We're all very confused, and feedback will be great from people that have had experiences with this scouting service and/or similar ones. I am currently 16 years old, so i have around 2 years before i head of for University.

Your parents are absolutely right.

No school would charge you that amount of money. At the very best, they are third-party liaisons with certain universities, but you can easily do everything they do yourself.

thanks for the reply.

It all seemed very rushed as well, but you say that we can do what they are doing. How so? i would love to continue playing football at the college level, what are the necessary steps that i can take? I am currently living in malaysia, so how can i market myself to colleges in the US
