I'm a Hong Kong international student who's not applying for financial aid.
How exactly will my application be reviewed? Will I be compared in the 'HK' pool, or with US domestic applicants? And are my chances lowered because I'm international?

Being an international definitely lower your chances when compared to US students, because international students are admitted in a limited number(10% quota or sometimes more or less than that). Some colleges view your application along with those of your school or country while some don’t. Not applying to financial aid takes you to a little safer position(little means LITTLE only).

As far as Yale is concerned, they make a holistic approach to applications

Depends on what part of the world you’re from.

It depends on where you are from really. Being from China or India lowers your chances much more than being from, let’s say, Uganda.
At the end of the day they will not admit 100 indian kids if they can admit a more diverse group.
But yeah being international kills us (I’m from Argentina)
