<p>I have to say some of you have given bad advice. This is an International asking for siginificant amount of FA. This is a big deal for any school that isn't need-blind for internationals. I knew a student from China asking for full-ride and he got rejected from bunch of schools, including some that are supposedly "safeties". He got accepted to Williams and Earlham and that's most likley because three faculty members in his school went to Williams (he was on scholarship to attend a boarding school in Williamstown, MA). He could have easily ended up with only Earlham and we are talking about a kid that the teachers thought as the brightest they'd ever taught. His first year GPA at Williams was 4.0 while he was planning to major in Econ and English. I lost touch with him after that but I wouldn't be surprised if he graduated with the highest distinction there. That's 10 years ago! You can imagine the competition is even worse now.</p>

Northwestern's admission for internationals is not need-blind and they would not admit you without giving what you asked for. NU would normally be a safety for you if you don't ask for money. But since you need them to pay 80%, that makes it a reach also. </p>
<p>By the way, middlebury and williams has no chemical engineering in case you care.</p>
<p>I think you cant really compare the two cases because 1. He's not from China- this is a really big deal 2. He's one of the top in RJC- another big deal because rjc is better than any boarding school in Williamstown, featured in US journals.. Yeap, no one is a shoe in but..but He has a good chance..</p>
<p>You are nitpicking. I never say his situation was identical. You assumed I wasn't aware of those and that's not true. I didn't mention them but then I also didn't mention my friend's list wasn't nearly as top-heavy as OP's. The things you mentioned are countered by the fact that the schools my friend applied to were not as top-heavy as OP; it was 10 years ago with less applicants; also he got 3 teachers that were Williams alums and they actually went over to the admission to lobby for him. That year, I was told Williams had only FIVE scholarships available for internationals and my friend was one of them. </p>

<p>Well actually, looking at my school mates' stats, e.g. upwards three Olympiad Golds and at least one International Olympiad medal, I don't think I'll even make it for Yale. I'm counting more on Williams and Middlebury now, but will still apply Yale SCEA.</p>
