International student needs help with application

Hi, I am an international student from Bolivia. I just took the SAT on Oct 1st, and I think I did pretty well. I'm planning on taking the Subject Tests on Nov. But here in my county there is little to no guidance on what to do or how to apply to college. I know that the SAT is a must, but now I'm kinda lost.

I'd really appreciate if somebody could tell me what to do now. I know there are essays, grades from high school, etc. but I'd like more specific info like what should the essay be about, when should I start my application, if just scanning recomendation letters is ok or it has to be separate, other legal documents, when to send them. Well, basically all the basic stuff that US seniors know.

I want to study in the US, but info is what I am lacking. Any help would be really appreciated.

PS. If there is any latin member, please contact me! That'd be really helpful.

What year are you in el colegio? Are you planning to come to the US to study for 2012-2013 or 2013-2014?

In general, if you go onto the website of each university you are interested in applying to, you will find out all the information you need about how and by when to apply to that school. It will tell you what documents (your high school transcript will be needed for all of the schools) and essays to submit. Many schools use the exact same application, with just a few minor differences. This is called the Common Application and you can find it online. The Common Application will tell you what the essay topics are this year and will give you a space to upload them. Any schools which don’t use the Common Application, will have a copy of their own application online that you can download and fill out.

You will have to arrange for the College Board to send your SAT scores to all the schools you plan to apply to. You will need to choose 2 teachers who know you well and like you to write letters of recommendation for you. The Common Application lets them fill out the forms online, or you can give them a paper copy if that won’t work or if the school has a different application. You will also need to give your guidance counselor (if the school has one), the counselor recommendation form from each appication.

There is a forum that just deals with international students’ concerns. You will probably find some very helpful info there.
