International Student Transfer

I am an Indian student in 2nd year of my Undergrad. I want to transfer to a good University abroad in my final year (preferably US)
I am an above average student. I don’t know a lot about foreign universities that would be willing to take me.
I need suggestion on which universities i should apply to and what steps should I take.
Any help would be really appreciated;-)

Many universities have a requirement that a student take a certain number of hours at their institution in order to receive a degree. Typically you can’t transfer to a different school for just your final year of college.

Does your current institution have a “study abroad” program where you can study at a different school for a semester or a year?

Otherwise, if you want to transfer, you would likely need to complete 2 years at the transfer institution.

What is your major? Do you have any financial restrictions?

  1. Many universities will not take Senior level transfers, so you need to check out how many of your units will transfer. Many schools will have a cap of transferable units, so you may need to spend another 2 years to finish your degree in the US.
  2. Are you in need of financial aid? Transfers get very little aid vs. Freshman level applicants.
  3. If you are going into your 3rd year in your Undergrad studies, I would stay and finish your degree at home, but consider a study abroad semester or year in the US instead. This way you can continue with your degree but will not lose any units towards that degree and your still able to study in the US.

Does your university offer study abroad?

I am doing B.A Psychology honors, i.e., of three years. I wish to continue the same. Universities in US have a four year honors programme so I though to complete the last two years abroad. I have read the requirements for transfer and many good universities demand that I do atleast two years at my original college.

Financial aid is great but not a must. Unfortunately my University does not offer a study abroad programme.
