International Student w/ Financial Aid

Hi all, I’m an international student applying for Grade 10 at US boarding schools (my top choice right now is Exeter/Deerfield). I’m curious to see if any international students from these and other US boarding schools can share their experience of applying, being accepted and their general school life.

I’d also greatly appreciate if any international students on financial aid share a bit on how much they were granted and how severely it impacted their application.

Thanks!

Hi, I’m an international student at Loomis (and we’re on break so I can finally procrastinate on CC again haha). I was in the US while applying, so it made things easier when visiting and communicating with schools. IMO most boarding schools do a good job helping intl students’ transition to a different environment, traveling, and other miscellaneous intl issues. The transition was pretty smooth for me and for most intl students, and we have intl events once in a while. I do realize that most intl students went to international schools before, but those who went to non-English speaking schools find their niche as well. Anyway, my time here has been great and I learned some Russian as well lol. I’m not on FA, but it could be easier if you’re from an underrepresented region.

Thanks for the insight! Where do you normally go during long breaks (e.g. Summer) and not-so-long breaks (Thanksgiving?)? Do you stay with relatives in the US or fly back home?

I usually fly back home for long breaks, and usually travel/stay with friends (like in nyc) for shorter ones. I know people who fly back for Thanksgiving, and the school also offers host family options.
