[International student]What if I can't go to Calso?

I'm a 1st-year international student, so taking the sumer orientation seems kinda impossible for me. But now I'm really worried about the class registration. If I can't go to Calso, can I still get register for classes really early? From the web it seems like that Calso is THE EXCLUCIVE way to sign up for classes. And that really sucks.....

If you are coming to the states, what does your arrival date matter? Just come earlier and attend CALSO. Its part of the package.

See the problem is that either J1/F1 visa requires me to come no earlier than 15 days before school starts(the end of July). So if I come, it’s gonna take another whole new visa process which is extremely complicated… I REALLY wanna come and meet other freshmen, but the visa thing kinda makes it impossible for me. I’m also worried that my absense of CalSo would put me in a disadvantaged place for course sign-up.

Can’t you take a “vacation” for one of the CalSO dates?

In any case, yes, CalSO is the only way to register for classes. However, once the CalSO dates have passed you will be able to get an appointment without having to be around campus. Try emailing someone at Admissions and ask if, because you are an international and it seems implausible for you to fly over for 3 days, there is something they can do.

Because your course selection WILL suck by having a late course registration date.

yea just late course registration… it doesn’t matter that much

dont use your F1 visa for the CALSO date. like undecided said, just apply for another visa like u’re coming for a vacation and attend calso. then u can go back to wherever ur home country is and then wait till the F1 is valid, and come back for school

My Dd did not go to Calso and that did mean delayed registration, she did not get the calc class she wanted, but had no problem getting something else. It worked out fine, yes, she had to adjust, but it was fine. Don’t stress it, this is your first term registration, there ought to be plenty of courses available that you do need

guys thank you so mucn! i think i’ll talk to the admissons to figure it out somehow.
