I'm a High School junior in China, planning to study in the US. I recently found out that if you can play for a College's varsity team it will give you an increased likelihood of admissions.

I contacted some older friends from China studying in the US about this. None of them are sports-inclined and so they couldn't tell me much. What I did find out from one friend at a Division 3 school is that their soccer team is only as good as my high school's team.

I am captain of my soccer team and I am actually even better than that because I have made it on to my city's youth soccer team (my city has population of >5million so there is a lot of competition). Thus, I feel I am at least good enough to play for a Division 3 team at least.

But, what I also learnt from my friends is that the Varsity team's coaches actually visit the high school students who they want to play, and then invite them to join their college. Obviously, coaches are not visiting China. In that case, how can I (as an international student), tell a college/college team/college coach that I am good enough to play for their soccer team in order to boost my admission chances?

[Please forgive my ignorance, I don't know that much about US admissions, and athlete admissions especially because I am international student]
