Hello!

I'm an international student who needs HIGH need (almost a full-ride) and I want to attend Grinnell College.
However, I made a mistake (it's not exactly a mistake) and I applied to Grinnell on ED2. I was happy to do it, but then I read on their website that: "International studetns with high need who want to be considered for our special international scholarships should apply RD". I feel pretty stupid for not reading that before! On ED2 they might probably either reject me or defer me.

So I sent an email to the international admission officer coordinator asking what should I do, and he sent me this:

"Hi Guillermo,

Thanks for your message and interest in Grinnell. We are actually able to package admitted students the same way in ED as we would in RD, so there would be no financial disadvantage to applying ED2 if you choose. If you are not admitted or do not receive sufficient aid, then you would still be able to apply RD to other schools, which is often a benefit. Grinnell does have a need-aware international admission policy.

I look forward to reading your application soon, in any case."

and then I asked:

"But what if I want to be considered for the special international scholarships?
Will my chances of receiving a slightly better financial aid will increase?
Like I told you, I want to attend Grinnell but I don't want my financial situation be an obstacle in achieving what I want.

Would you advise me to apply RD if I'm in a high need? How hard is it to get one of those special scholarships?"

and he replied:

"Same answer, we can do those in ED If warranted."

That last comment surprised me because their website specifically says that they only give the special scholarships to students applying RD, and he says he gives those on ED too!

I want to apply RD so I can be sure I will be applying for those scholarships, but I don't know if it will look really bad to change from ED2 to RD. I don't know if that can hurt my chances.

Any advice?
