International student with no high school certificate but job experience

Hello everyone, like the topic title says, I’m a prospective international student with no high school certificate or equivalent, but I do have job experience. Due to family circumstances I dropped out of school and began working fairly early on in my life (I’m 33 now)

Recently I have been wanting to resume my education and I think that community college in the USA would be a good fit for me. I’m not too keen on the educational options in my own country (I’m from Singapore) and I lived in the USA from the ages of 10-12, so I would like to go back.

Would anyone happen to have any suggestions for prospective community colleges? There are so many that I don’t know which to choose from. I am looking for those that would accept job experience in lieu of educational qualifications. I do not mind doing the SAT if I have to, but I would like to skip that step if I could.

I’d would start out by deciding which school you would want to attend. Community college is a really good option, in my opinion, especially when diving back into academics after such a long time.

When you decide which school is in your district (if that’s a restriction) or the one closest or whatever, go and talk to the admissions office there and explain your situation. They should be able to point you in the right direction. You’re most likely going to stay in your current home state or else you’re going to unnecessarily pay out of state tuition.

What state are you in? I’ve lived in Washington and Illinois so I have experience with those systems.

Some community colleges require a high school equivalent like a GED. You might not be able to get a student visa to enter the country.

I don’t currently reside in the USA. I’m thinking of Delgado Community College in New Orleans since I have a friend who lives there, but I’m willing to explore other options as well.

Will the GED be sufficient for most CCs or will I have to take the SATs as well?

CCs do not require the SAT.

So just the GED then? Will the SAT improve my chances?

SATs are for high school students. I wouldn’t take a SAT, it would not be relevant.
