International student

We are in Australia, interested in studying in US. Any advise/suggestions on
taking SAT and college applications?

Thanks.

Standarized tests have a lot of weight in college applications… especially in the US.

I recommend the SAT, but you should also know that the ACT (standarized test that includes math, english, and science) is also equally recognized in colleges.

There are many forums on this site that will help you learn about the SAT/ACT and the best books/material required to getting the best scores, so do check those out.

Different colleges have different criteria for accepting students…these include but are not limited to: high school courses, standarized tests, and ECAs (extra curricular activities)
I highly recommend checking out your prospective college’s website for more information on admissions, if you haven’t already done so.

Hope I helped and best of luck.

RESEARCH. THOROUGHLY. It takes time and effort to prepare for uni, esp. if you want to go to a good one. Know the criteria for all the schools you are interested in applying to and KNOW IT WELL. The uni admission process can seem quite complicated (and scary) if you are not prepared. I currently live in Canada and the one thing I notice about students interested in going to the States is that they are under prepared or start preparing too late. So if you are really serious about going to the US, start EARLY.

In addition, if you should also seriously consider the pros and cons of going to school in the US vs Australia vs anywhere else that suits your fancy. For me, I chose to go to school for undergrad in Canada because the ginormous difference in cost. However, I hope to eventually go back to the US, so I hope to go to graduate school in the US. It really depends on what your long term plan is and what kind of education you want.

Good luck!
