International Student

I am new here. Have been reading posts and threads since 5 am. Gr8 posts, replies and threads. I really liked the forum, but it is also making me very nervous and confused.
Seeing all posts and candidates for university applicants I fell I don’t even stand a chance. Seeing their SAT Scores and especially there extracurricular activities I feel it’s not worth even apply. Since I am an international student so I don’t have any GPA’s and AP’s. I really don’t know how much my GPA would be. My results are being calculated in % and grades. Can you help me calculate my GPA?
I am an above average, hard working student, also among the top 10 (7 if u say exact) of my class (I saw sum post they are among top 10 out of 500 + students, where as in my class there are just 40 or if u say whole batch I would say around 200).Secondly when I read post of students there had been gr8 emphasize on extracurricular activities, which I really love to do. But my school doesn’t provide as many as them.
I want to take electrical engineering as my major. I have been browsing universities for about 2 months, while I have already registered for SAT 1 in Nov and I will be giving SAT 11 (maths level 2 and physics ) in Dec . Am I Late?? (I hope not).
I would really love to go MIT or Michigan, but I can’t evaluate that I am applicable for that with a good financial aid. Are my Subjects according to the requirements?? I would also like to hear universities which could match my stats.
Am I on the right path? Do I stand a chance against other candidates?
Please evaluate my stats and match sum good universities with that
Looking forward for replies
P.s (I know it’s big but my problem is even bigger.)

STATS TIME!

Gender: M
Will apply for financial aid: Yes, Ofcourse.

Academics:
GPA - cant Calculate
Class Rank: top 10 students (7 to be exact)

Scores:
Sat: Registered For Nov
SAT II Math Level 2: Registered for December
SAT II Physics: Registered for December

Subjects at school and high school
English- 4 years
Maths- 4 years
Physics – 4 years
Chemistry – 4 years
Biology – 2 years (at school)
I don’t know whether to include my %, so not including now.

We can give you no idea without a lot more information. Your scores will be very important. So will your grades and what you’ve done outside of the classroom.

What country you are from is also of major importance. There is tremendous competition from Asian countries, lots from Europe but less from Africa and Latin America.

For financial aid, forget Michigan. MIT has very limited aid for internationals but does have some for very outstanding students–top students in their country mostly. Students who are clearly extraordinary in math/science with very high scores and that have won competitions well beyond the school level.

thanks for ur rep i really hope i do well on SAT
Do u think I am late doing SAT??
I am from pakistan.
I have done voluntary services for the community and as well as I had been a part for human rights dept in Pakistan. I have participated in competitions at school, projects with school, and took part in different educational and physical activities. It has been mostly of school level, and I don’t feel I have gone way beyond school level.
School grades had been excellent I achieved an overall 87 %(A+) at school with A+ grades in physics, chemistry , Biology ,English and maths while at college/high school I got A grades in chemistry and physics, A+ in maths and B in English .I don’t know whether u r familiar with this grading system.
Considering if I Score around 1900-2100 and Sat II, I score around 750-800 in maths and 700-750 in physics. Which University will be a good match with my stats?

any replies plz /??

Much will depend on how much aid you need. The less you need, the better the chance you will end up at an American college. 2100 on the SAT will not make you competitive at MIT. Purdue has some money for internationals and might be worth an application. You need a backup in your own country, there is a lot of competition from Pakistan and no safety for an international needing aid.

i will be needing maximum aid avalible . already choosen backsup in my own country. May be i can be in better position to decide once i get my SAt result :D

Michigan has little or no financial aid for internationals. OTOH, MIT is need blind for all students including internationals.

About your grades. One good indicator is how well you did on public examinations (e.g., GCSE).

ahan now tht is sum boost
i belive if i am just accepted for MIT i will get a good financial aid.

well i am give my grades of my first year above,i will be doing my lvl best to improve

Atleast,MIT is worth a try.( i will know my position in the world)
