International students' financial aid and scholarship

I am a freshman of an unerversity in Taiwan. I want to understand what kind of financial aids and scholarship I can apply for if I study at a U.S unerversity. Can someone reply my question? Thank you so much.

Hi,
Unfortunately, scholarships are not plentiful for international students. Some schools do award them, though.

However, you have another problem…you’re already in college. American universities usually only award good scholarships to incoming freshmen…not to transfer students. That is a problem for American students, too. The reason some colleges award big scholarships to incoming freshmen is because it helps their status and rankings - which is based on the quality of their incoming freshmen class.

How much can your parents afford to spend each year?

Thank you for your replication. On the other hand, I don’t know how much should we pay for tuition in an U.S college each year.

lazygirl…tuition/room and board (you can’t commute from home!!) and fees at U.S. colleges vary wildly. You can attend a community college for a modest price…say $7000 a year for tuition/fees/books but you would have to add housing and travel costs to that and that would be an additional $10,000 a year or so. Travel from Taiwan is expensive…and housing and food would depend on where you live.

There are private universities in this country where the total cost of attendance is over $50,000.

Thank you for your replication. I finally have some common sense about the topic. I have another question. Which college’s tuition is the most expensive and which is the cheapest?

You can use a search engine like [College MatchMaker - Type of School](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board) to find some of the information you need. You also need to read everything (and I do indeed mean everything) at [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://www.educationusa.state.gov/) Then you need to make an appointment with the counselors at the advising center closest to you. There are several in Taiwan [EducationUSA - Find an Advising Center](http://www.educationusa.info/Taiwan) These counselors can help you find the answers to your questions about studying in the US.

Thank you for your replication. I finally have some common sense about the topic. I have another question. Which college’s tuition is the most expensive and which is the cheapest?

Since there are hundreds and hundreds of colleges in the US, that is a hard question to answer. Cost isn’t by tuition alone.

there are many expensive colleges and many cheaper colleges. You need to provide more info.

Thank you, happymomof1, for offering these useful websites for me.
