International students from Australia applying to U.S schools

@bhaggy: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, Dartmouth, WUSTL, Boston College, University of Rochester, Boston University, University of Michigan, Kalamazoo College…will you be applying this year too? Just wondering.

Haha IBAustralia, there are actually quite a few overlaps between my college list and yours- minus Brown, BC, UMich and Kalamazoo and plus a few others. =)

@sanga: From what I’ve gathered, it’s incredibly difficult for international students to get into medical school in the first place. And regarding financial aid, even US citizens who enter medical school graduate with quite a lot of debt.

@nadalle: what’s your first choice college?

My first choice was Stanford but I got rejected. I’ll be going to MIT- my second choice along with Harvard. (I got rejected at Harvard too)

@nadalle: Wow, you got into MIT! Way to go. It doesn’t matter that you got rejected from Harvard and Stanford.

By the way my first choice is Harvard.

Thanks IBAustralia. Good luck with Harvard!
By the way, do you by any chance use a forum called “IBSurvival”? I think I saw someone with the exact user name there once. =)

Haha…yeah, it might have been me. Gotta find some way to survive IB, with all its extra packages, if you know what I mean:)

Yeah, thanks for the luck. I think I’ll need it, come time this admissions circle (yikes…)

Having somehow survived IB, I completely understand what you mean. =)

Just remember that no matter what, things will somehow work out in the end. =)

Thanks alot, that helps. Can’t imagine what it would be like writing all those essays. I just hope that my EC are my strengths.

Hey there,
Another Sydneysider here! I’ve been lurking around the forums for a bit, so I thought I should drop by and say hi.
I’ll also be applying for Fall 2012, aiming for the Ivies, Stanford, Duke etc.
Hope everyone had a lovely Easter!

Hi Ludovician!

It’s good to see you. Hope you had a great Easter yourself (I know I did!).
Anyway, it’s good to know you’re applying for Fall 2012 too, makes me feel less like an outcast, even though I know that we’ve sort of competitors. I have a feeling that this year’s admission cycle will be hectic. Can’t imagine it with Early action now at Harvard and wherever else. I bet the acceptance rates are going to be lower than what they are presently.

Enough of my ranting…Again it’s nice to see you here. Please keep posting!

Nice to meet you too, IBAustralia!
Yeah, we definitely will be up against each other, but then again, so will half of CC! So hey, us Aussies might as well band together on this side of the world.
Do you know where you’ll apply EA? I was so set on Yale when it was the only one, but now HYP are all EA, I’m not quite sure…

Yeah, I know…I contemplated on which school(s) to apply EA as well earlier. Originally I was going for Cornell, and then it changed to Columbia, then Brown etc…I couldn’t really decide and I changed my college list quite a bit too.
I think now I’ll just apply RD since it’s safer and the applicant pool is somewhat different from ED applicants (at least that’s what I’ve heard).

I think that you should choose the school that you feel most attracted to, as in the adcoms should be able to visible tell that you REALLY want to come to that particular school etc…
Quite frankly, that’s one of the reasons why I decided on RD lately. They’re all just really great schools, and it’s kind of tough to pick one over the other, if you know what I mean.

Hey, just PMed you!

@IBAustralia: yep i’m applying this year. Are you doing the SATs (Is or IIs) on the 7th by any chance?

@Ludovician: Hi! nice to add another one to the ranks. On your EA dilemma, I know exactly what you mean. The amount of times i’ve changed my mind is ridiculous, although I’m sticking with Dartmouth now (I hope!) Are you HSC or IB?

@bhaggy: Hey, nice to meet you too! I’m doing the HSC. And I’m actually taking the SAT IIs this Saturday. You won’t be taking it at MQU by any chance?

haha i’m taking SAT II’s at MQU this saturday as well! I just stalked your posts and found out you’re a swimmer so I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for the one athletic looking guy amongst the rest of us nerds :P. Look out for the indian guy in a red liverpool jacket. Good luck!

Awesome, see you there! Wrong gender though - you won’t spot me if you’re looking for a guy, haha. :stuck_out_tongue: Not sure what I’ll be wearing, but I’ll keep an eye out for the red jacket. Good luck to you too. :)

Good luck everyone! Just thought I’d post as a Yale’15… also got into the other schools where I applied so I’ll help out where I can (:
