International Students Stats

Hey IS!

Could you put your stats and the universities\colleges that you have been acepted to?

Thankss a lot!!

Many of us have completed stats profiles. Just view the profile of a student you are interested in and click on "Stats Profile".

I dont have a stats profile but Im just copying and pasting the thing that I posted quite a while back (with some tweaking)..

Decision: ACCEPTED

Stats:

* Fee Waiver Used?: no
* SAT I (by section): 690/670/670 = 2030/1360
* SAT IIs: 720/720/620/420 (hahaha)
* ACT:
* APs: Self studied 2 because school offers 0. Took them in another country.
* IBs:
* GPA, Weighted and Unweighted: No gpa
* Rank: Top 10% out of 450 (top 5% for the first 4 years of hs, top 10% for my 5th year)
* Senior Yr Courseload: (National curriculum.. took bio/chem/phy/calc/stats.. no english.. I was quite worried that not taking eng would make me weak.. so I selfstudied AP english)
* Number of Apps from Your School: to the US, like 20+
* Other stats: Awards in school - mostly academic awards

Subjective:

* ECs listed on app: Soccer all through HS (MVP in 1 year), HFH, Girl guides brownies leader, lots of other things, nearly all of them w/ leadership positions (pres/founder, co-capt, co-pres, secretary)

 • Job/Work Experience: only volunteering

 • Essays (subject and responses): North korea/south korea divide, diarihea (sp?!!?!?!). I liked them but they were kinda rushed. I think they really represented ME. I didn't show anyone though..

 • Teacher Recs: So bad.. My teachers didnt know how to write recs since they've never written one for US colleges. My teacher showed me one and it had 2 sentences. My other teacher who knew me for 2 years (also my soccer coach for 1 year) wrote a good one though (i think?) - wrote about my enthusiasm in biology/research

 • Counselor Rec: Generic. Said stuff about my service to the school. He hardly knew me because he was the vice principal.. We dont have counselors here.

 • Hook (if any):

Location/Person:

* State or Country: New Zealand
* School Type: Competitive public
* Ethnicity: Korean
* Gender: Female
* Hooks: None
* Strengths/Weaknesses: Good grades, ok ECs, lots of leadership; bad SAT scores, mediocre applicant, might've sounded boring on paper?
* Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Wouldn't have a clue

Other Factors: International applicant.

Accepted to: Penn (waitlisted then accepted), Carnegie Mellon (w00t!), UVa, BU, Rochester, Northwestern, UMichigan (priority waitlist, then accepted).

Rejected from: UChicago, Johns Hopkins, UC San Diego, North Carolina (chapel hill).

Nice NoFX, but where are you going?!

Hey b@arium, I just took a look at your profile. How did you calculate your GPA? I mean, the German grading system is quite different from the American... Did you have it computed by one of those agencies? How does that work exactly, is only the last year (Abi) taken into account? It'd be great if you could elaborate on that. You can PM me, if you want.

Accepted to: Princeton, Cambridge, Berkeley
Going to: Cambridge

Stats: who gives a ****?
Reason why admitted: essays + national competitions + passion for subject

did you guys ask for financial aid?

and congrats aw5k!!! cambridge is so amazing :)

awelex, my GPA on a 4.0 scale was just a rough guess for the purpose of the stats profile. My German GPA is 1.5 (on a 1-6 scale) and I figured it could be equivalent to 3.8. I did not convert my grades when I reported them to colleges but I gave them a short description of the German grading scale. With the help of that and an estimated class rank I think colleges were able to interpret my grades more accurately than if I had converted them in some weird way. I reported all my grades starting from 9th grade but I gave them my Abitur average as my GPA (and specified that it only includes the last two years; actually just one year at the time I applied ;)).

I think those expensive grade conversion services are really unnecessary unless the college requires it.

westcoastlove, I applied for financial aid and I think that that really hurt my chances because I needed close to a full ride.

Decision: accepted at Duke U.(no fin. aid) and at 8 more colleges with scholarships (10k to 18k)
Rejected: HYP, boston college

Attending: Duke University =D!

Stats:
* Fee Waiver Used?: no

* SAT IIs: 720 (or 710 I don't remember), 700 (or 710 or sth like that) and 600 or sth like that in US history..
(I'm sorry about the SATs.. I really can't remember any of my scores right now.. hahah)
* ACT: -
* APs: no Aps =P..
* IBs: no IBs =P
* GPA, Weighted and Unweighted: my school doesn't even know what a GPA is, but I always say my GPA is 4.00 according to a conversion chart!
* Rank: 1 out 299
* Senior Yr Courseload: lol =D all the students take the same courseload
(19 subjects)
* Number of Apps from Your School: only me! =D!
