[/ul]General Comments: doctoribach did u apply in this cycle?

Congratulations! Its really a big deal!

i have not sent my application yet :)

probably u were not from english talking country, yes? :)

I got waitlisted, so I’m hoping to get off it…

Could u share ur stats?

I was initially reluctant to respond to this because it propagates the importance of SAT scores which I believe are already given more weight by international applicants than due.

Anyway…

Decision: Accepted
SAT 1: 2270
SAT Subjects (Math, Physics, Chem): 800, 790, 790

Curriculum: International Baccalaureate

@contradict, why not tell us what you did outside of class instead, then? :)

There was one person called “blindsided” who got deferred. He looked like a perfect applicant, academics and activities wise (he sounded quite passionate about what he did). If that wasn’t a ■■■■■ (he had an unusually high number of A-Levels and everything looked so perfect that’s it hard to believe), I really hope he got in.

please,post your stats here!!!

Was waitlisted…too lazy to post stats but my SAT was 2070 and 600s and low 700s sat2 scores. I got into williams though. All the best of luck guys and remember that colleges look at th whole application and sat scores are just a piece of the puzzle. Essays, class rank, ECs and recommendations hold as much weight.

Guys please note that huss182 is first generation student.

guys,please post ur stats!

OP, you are coming off as very aggresive. You are posting on other school theads as well. Please do yourself a favor and know that these schools are going to look at much more than stats, so asking for other applicants numbers is useless. You can tell if you are competitive by looking at the common data set. After that, it is the soft factors that will get you in.

t

GA2012MOM

I didnt really understand your purpose…

So where did you find an aggresive tone ?

I am pretty much aware how SAT scores reflect admission deciswions…So dont be smart please…

I agree wholeheartedly with GA2012MOM. S/he is a bit condescending as well.

I’m with GA2012MOM too. doctoribach, SAT scores are a very small component in admission decisions. Getting a perfect SAT score won’t guarantee you admission and a poor one won’t automatically deny you admission.

^
I think you’re correct. Now, don’t be too hard on this doctoribach person. What about the rest of CollegeConfidential, with their chance threads and the other decisions threads? What about them?

OP, stop worrying so much about stats. From what I gather, things will vary depending on the year’s applicant pool. As an international applicant, you will be in a separate application pool. It also doesn’t matter if you have a ridiculously lengthy list of ECs or awards - what matters more is what the things you do/have done say about you, as an individual, and how you can contribute to the student body of whatever college. You should also consider that selective college X probably does things in a different manner to that of college Y.

Instead of making those threads - heck, I’m guilty of a few myself, and perhaps I can relate to your worries - why don’t you focus on yourself and your own application? I can recall you said you had trouble with writing - why not read and write some more instead of worrying?

Good luck!

doctoribach, the reason I responded to you is that I am offended by your post where you say “Guys please note that huss182 is first generation student.” and “probably u were not from english talking country, yes?” in response to an international student who had great verbal and writing skills. Please know that Amherst is a school that is huge on giving first generation students, the financially needy, the Community College transfer student, the international student that needs full FA, etc. an equal opportunity to attend their school. Stats don’t make Amherst the great school it is, the interesting and different people that they admit that do.

Sombre
Thanks for an adequate post. :)

But I am not worrying at all. :)

However,i have never said that good sat scores would guarantee ANYTHING. NO! but it matters A LOT!
And its not only my opinion…
a great book tells about it comprehensively :

Hern

That book is from about 10 years ago. I read it 5 years ago when my D was applying to Amherst and it was outdated in the information it provided then. It does have some “general” information that may still hold true, but it is VERY out of date for much of it.
