Although I've been living in the US for 5 years, I am still considered an international student at Rice. The circumstances are complex and I do not want to go into details. But since internationals don't qualify for need based aid, I dont know how am I going to pay for it. Student loans? I am a premed. I'll be racking debts in med school. Should I really start this early?

Last year, Rice's cost was 35k. But this year, its more like 40k due to the MASSIVE hike in tuition. 35k was already pushing it but my parents are feeling as if 40k is too much. I love Rice and I am willing to do anything to go there. So here is my question. How do you internationals cope. Do you take out loans? Do you work a crapload. Both?

now it becomes either 15k loans or 10k work. I dont want to take out that much loans because I am a premed and med school costs a lot. But it would be hard for me to make 10k a year while studying.

"Antarius, are you parents paying for you?"

I am a US citizen and im getting 24k in need based aid. The rest my parents are paying... Probably will work in the break and earn as much as possible to reduce my parents burden

hey squarehead, i've been living in the US for 7 and a half years and i'm also still considered international. although i'm not going to rice, i was accepted and i got this $54,000 ($13500/year) merit scholarship. but the tuition was still too much, so i chose caltech, which did offer me a lot of need based aid.
if i had chosen rice though, i think i'd have to work my butt off...
