International Students

I'm an international student from Europe and dying to get into Georgetown next year. However, money is an issue and I read from Gtown's website that they only give a limited amount of scholarships to internationals. Is there anyone here from abroad who got in with a scholarship? How generous were they? I think I could manage to pay up to 10,000 dollars a year, but more than that would be difficult for me.

I feel I have a shot at admission if I reach my goal of 40+ IB points due to my extra-curriculars, but money might prove an issue. Does anyone know the total amount of scholarships they hand out to internationals? And if Gtown really wants you, will they make sure that money problems don't come in between?

FYI, Gtown is need-blind and therefore your contribution has nothing to do with the chance that you get in or not (that said, the money issue affects whether you can enroll or not). I am not sure if Gtown meets full need of every student (some received very limited aids) but in my case Gtown was generous.
Anw, don’t worry abt that too much.

I’m an international student who got admitted into Georgetown this year, but I have a friend who graduated from my school a few years ago, and according to her, she got a very small amount of financial aid from Gtown. She appealed, but they apologized saying they had very limited funds for internationals. She told me they only offer a very small number of international students financial aid, and the most she knows of that has been given out is 10,000 USD. I’m still awaiting my financial aid package, but I’m not expecting much, and if it really isn’t much, I definitely will enroll elsewhere.

@dlwldnjs: I would say the finaid package varies in each case. As I have read from the Gtown “Finaid for Intel Students” they say the amount of grants and scholarships for non-immigrant students are very limited, but still sometimes they are suddenly generous, I guess?
Oh and I hope you will receive a good finaid package^. Which school are you going to btw?

dlwldnjs: Damn, that isn’t an awfully lot of money! Could you post your financial aid amount here once you know it? It would be really helpful. And by the way, what do you think would make the admissions people give internationals bigger scholarships? The fact that they’re in need or that they’re splendid inviduals, who they are dying to enroll?

How much did they offer you in the end, dlwldnjs?
