I'm from England and am intending to go to America for college,
I have been looking at league tables, admissions, prices etc. but feel completely swamped. Is there any advice anyone could give me on how to proceed with this?

I’m American and I decided to apply to some places in the UK, so I know how you feel. Do you have any specific questions? Those would be easier to work with than an entire explanation of American schools. The Student Room is a British forum about university and has a subforum on applying to the US, so you might want to check that out.

One recommendation I have is to chat with your counselor/careers officer at your school (not exactly sure, but probably whoever manages your UCAS stuff at your school). He/she will likely know about foreign systems, and should be able to give you a rough introduction to all the basics of the US system.

^ I second the above post - I’m from Australia and applied to both the US and UK - CC and TSR were very useful indeed…
the relevant link would be: <a href=“Custom Domain by Bitly”>Custom Domain by Bitly; (had to use the url shorternr coz CC censors TSR links)
See especially the sticky threads at the top of the page - they cover the basics from a pom’s point of view

This website should explain the basics of the higher education system in the US, including information about the admission process: [EducationUSA - For Students](http://www.educationusa.info/students.php)

If you have any specific questions after getting a basic overview, we are happy to help :)
