Mk so I have a few questions. They're a bit all over the place, but oh well-

Oh by the way, just so you know, I'm a Canadian citizen living in Maryland.

So, what are some good colleges/universities for international studies majors or something similar? (Preferably in the US and Canada; I'd also prefer the school to be in an urban environment, in a big city like Toronto or something). I'm particularly interested in McGill University, University of Toronto, and UC Berkeley; do these schools have good programs for something related to international studies?
Also, I'm thinking of pursuing a career in journalism; would a major in international studies and a minor in journalism or something similar be a good idea? What are some other good combinations for this purpose?
What else can you do with a major in international studies? And what else would be a good combination with international studies for other careers?

I hope this was clear enough. Thanks in advance!

I dont know about UToronto, but UC Berkley and McGill has a good international studies program. Other school to consider is Columbia, Tufts, American, John Hopkins, and UC-San Diego.

majoring in international studies and journalism is ok for journalism. Other majors can include: Political Science, English, History, Communications, American studies, the options are limitless.

You can decide to go into law school, consulting, or marketing. Once again, its limitless.

Thank you for that information.
Can anyone add anything about the journalism stuff?
Also, I’d appreciate if anyone could enlighten me a bit further regarding University of Toronto, McGill, and UC Berkeley.
Thanks!

aagh anybody??? I must shamelessly bump this thread.

bump.
aaaaanyone?
Oh also, I was wondering about study abroad opportunities at McGill, UofT, and Berkeley. Do they have opportunities in the Middle East/South Asia/ Africa?
Also, what other majors similar to international/global studies are there? I’d like to explore more majors.

If you are residing in Maryland you live near some of the best programs in international studies anywhere. Johns Hopkins and Georgetown have elite programs, with GW and AU slightly behind. And yes, it is a great way to prepare for a career in journalism. For example, Wolf Blitzer is a Hopkins alum and David Gregory went to AU.

hmm thanks for your input.
The thing is, I really would like to go out of state. I probably shouldn’t eliminate the Maryland/ DC colleges, but they’re really not at the top of my list.

Can anyone answer any of my other questions?

McGill would be your best bet; it is very highly regarded, has a great urban atmosphere, and as you have Canadian citizenship, is a pretty good deal. It would be helpful to know an idea of your stats (GPA, test scores, class rank, etc) to recommend schools to target.

Oh sorry,
My cumulative GPA right now is around 3.85, weighted it’s around 4.63 I believe.
My SAT Score - I got 750 on math, 730 on reading, and 800 on writing, for a total of 2280 with writing and 1480 without.
I have yet to take my SAT IIs, I was thinking about World history, math, biology, and French. Any recommendations on which I should take if I want to go into something international studies-related? Really the only reason I’m going to take biology is because my parent’s’ll be mad if I don’t. Math, I sort of feel obliged to take after having taken calculus, and then French and World I actually want to take.
Ummm our school doesn’t rank, so I can’t say anything about class rank.

I have a bunch of AP courses - I’ve taken government, calculus, statistics, english (lang&comp), computer science, psychology, and world history. Next year (my senior year) I plan to take biology, macroeconomics+microeconomics, human geography, literature, and perhaps photography and french.
Though from next year’s courses I’ll probably end up dropping a couple. I’m thinking that might be a bit too much. And I was looking so forward to slacking off senior year. =P oh well.

So yeah. That’s it I guess?

So I’d like to know more about international studies/ journalism. What’re they like? Is it plausible to go into journalism even if you don’t major or even minor in it?
I’d appreciate any answers to these or any of my above questions. Thanks!

International students: Could you help me with this question?
I applied to the Indiana University
I checked my istart status ( they say for the international students you should visit istart insted of going to onestart) and I realized my status SEVIS appeared to be initialized, where from 2 weeks ago it did not appear anything. Also,I called the international office one week ago and they said the result of the admission process would appear between 1-2 weeks from that moment.
My question is : the begging of the SEVIS process is a normal procedure? or it indicates they accepted me? I did not receive any letter or email so far.
Thank you so much!
