Hi! I was looking for some advice on my major. Currently I’m going into my sophomore year at the University of Dayton and am majoring in International Studies (concentration in global and economic development) and minoring in Spanish.
My goal is to work at a high level international NGO and I’m already seeking out internships next summer at UNICEF, Red Cross, Peace Corps, etc.
My question is for anyone whose followed a similar path, should I double major in a business degree to make myself more marketable to these businesses? I really don’t like math or finance, but I’m a strong writer. For what I want to do is my major (and possible later master) good enough?
Thanks!!
Your major is fine. Keep your language skills strong and take some statistics classes (Useful for social science majors). Study abroad, and do international/government/nonprofit/NGO internships over the summers - and during the school year if you can.
Don’t double major if you’re not actually interested in business; I don’t think it’ll necessarily help all that much.
