I would love to know if anyone else is going to be attending the national thespian conference in nebraska this year. Who is going, and are you performing, auditioning, or competing in the national IE festival?? I am auditioning and competing and extremely excited! Is anyone in Ragtime?

wow oops thats SO weird, that message above was posted by me, aspiringactress1, but i must have accidentally used find1songglory, which is a screen name i use a lot of other places and i must have at one point used it on this site. SO WEIRD, anyway, above was aspiringactress1 talking lol

My troupe is going to Nebraska. I was supposed to go with them but can't due to the fact that I am directing 2 shows this summer and we start on the 20th. I am so disappointed that I can't be with my kids! My co-leader is going. They are very excited. In fact they are having a yard sale today as a fundraiser for Nationals. One of our girls tied for first in State, (California) in monologue and so she will be competing. Five of our kids will be there. They are interested in auditioning for the colleges that will be there. I know there will be so many students attending, but keep your eye out for the Orange County High School of the Arts from Santa Ana, California!

I know that wct has remarked that their school is bringing some students. My d is a rising senior and I'll be chaperoning. Anyone else going?

lol YES i am, i started a thread about it a while ago. is your daughter doing IE's, or is her school doing a show, or is she just auditioning..? have you ever been before? anyways i am very excited about it, i will go straight from the conference to interlochen hooray! theatre for 7 weeks straight :-D

My d was in call backs last year for Ragtime - not cast :(. She will not be in IE"s but she will do the audition and the rest of festival. She looks forward (as I do) to see the cast of Ragtime as she thought they were awesome. Her school hopes to maybe bring a show next year....though we have very little funding to do so, so we'll see.

thats a bummer your daughter didn't get in to Ragtime, but being called back must have been quite an honor too - i have seen the guy playing Tateh perform several times, he is so incredibly talented and if the cast is even HALF as talented as he is then the show will be mindblowing - and i expect nothing less! :) hope you see you and her there!

Please be aware that I merged two threads on this same topic. In doing so, the posts are put into chronological order from both threads so might be out of sync from the order from the separate threads. They are now comingled. Enjoy.

thanks so much!

Hello all, just wanted to say I am at Nebraska now. Ragtime was the most amazing thing to ever see. We all just sat there with our jaws dropped. It was, to say the very least, professional!!! There was not a weak person in there. The writers, Ahrens and Flaherty, were there to see the show and were blown away, as was the cast. Rumor has it one of the original people involved in the original Ragtime production loved this Mother's interpretation and acting ability better than original mother, and her voice was beautiful also, more soprano, but a gorgeous sound. Two Tony Awards committee members were there. The cast was whisked away to do the HS cast recording. They are making some documentary of the whole thing. Tateh and Mother were just phenomenal. Both of them were like professionals with years of experience, both with layer upon layer of acting instinct. In the cast there were three people going to CCM, Mother, Father and one ensemble member. The CCM guys there were gushing over Mother, making sure no one would talk to her, leading her around saying, "She's ours now." There was one kid going to Julliard. Coalhouse was going to NYU. Two were going to Otterbein, two to Evansville, one to Univ. of Miami, etc. As you can see, there were many, many obviously highly talented kids, going to the best colleges. It makes you scared when you see this level of kid going into MT and you know who your competition is going to be in four years when they hit the NY audition circuit. You see how much work you have to do to come up to that level.

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! that makes me so mad. i really wish i could have gone and witnessed a great performance for peers! My director didnt want to go so my dreams were shattered. I can only live through what people tell me on this thread. I can also read the write up in dramatics magazine. WHHHHYYYYYYYY! i wanted to see this show so bad!!!!!!!!!!

I was there. A troupe member of mine and next-door neighbor was Emma Goldman in Ragtime. We also went to Vegas to see her, and I have to say both shows were great but it was AMAZING in Nebraska.

I had a great time. I did leadership, and I'm planning to run for Editor-Webmaster-Secretary next year.

Our students had a great time at Nationals. One of our graduating seniors recieved a $2,000 Thespian scholarship which will come in very handy for college expenses. Two of our rising seniors participated in the college auditions and were called back for interviews. What a wonderful opportunity for students to find out about BA and BFA programs that they may not have originally considered.
