Hey guys,
I would like to know whether being an international student who speaks 6 languages will help me in admission to top schools such as Ivy schools, Carnegie Mellon, etc.

P.S. I am a male student from Uzbekistan. I am taking the highest classes available in school (AP). Rising senior. Mostly As and about half a dozen Bs.

You are a URM and that should get you into good places, provided of course you have the necessary grades.

…how do you know that he is a URM?

The competition is very tough for internationals, but speaking several languages is always a plus.

International applicants aren’t URM. That terminology is used for domestic applicants.

The place to start is [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://www.educationusa.info/) After you have read through everything there, make an appointment with the counselors at the advising center in Tashkent: [EducationUSA - Center Profile - Educational Advising Center](http://www.educationusa.info/Tashkent) The people in that office are expert at helping students from your country find good places to study in the US.

You also should spend some time reading through the information in the International Students Forum. You can find that forum by going to the main page where all of the forums are listed and scrolling down.

I might be URM since I am a legal alien of United States and I own a visa.

“I am a legal alien of United States”

If you are a legal permanent resident (green card status) then you aren’t an international applicant. You are a domestic applicant. Will you graduate from a US high school? If so, talk with your own high school counselor about your college list. That person will be able to tell you where students with grades and test scores like yours have been admitted in recent years.

I do not own Greencard yet. Just a visa, which makes me international.

Also, do I need to take a special exam to prove that I am proficient in that language?

OK, now I am confused. What kind of visa status do you have? Is it a tourist visa, or is it something else (a J, G, or something else)?

If you are in Uzbekistan, you really do need to start at the EducationUSA office there. The counselors will help you determine which exams you need to take. If you are in another country, start at the closest office of EducationUSA. If you are in the US, ask your guidance counselor.

Each college and university posts information about which exams are necessary right on the website. Most will accept scores from the TOEFL and the IELTS, but some will have their own English exams. You need to check each website.

Ok. Thank you for the information you have given me.
