Applying for Financial Aid?: Probably (won't apply if it hurts my chances :( )

*I self-studied SAT I/II and APs because my school doesn't teach those. Will it work as a merit for me?

*I'm interested in :
Yale (applying SCEA cause it's my dream school..), Duke, Columbia, Brown, Stanford, Georgetown and Dartmouth.

Could you chance me and recommend other schools as well? Thank you!!

Great profile! I’d say those schools are mid-high reaches for you (as they are for most strong applicants), with tje exception of Georgetown being a low reach/high match.

And, correct me if I’m wrong here, 'cause I very well could be, but I’m pretty sure all those schools are need-blind, so requiring financial aid won’t hurt your chances.

Good luck! :)

Chance back?

Thebeatlestoday : you’re right! they are all need blind except for Columbia (needblind for only US residents) Thanks for your comment! :)

Amazing profile… you should fight for IVY league… You are such kind of student to make dreams true… if u have any interest i think you will probably apply harvard… good luck
Chance me back?

bump 10char

The question is: what are your matches/safeties?

Saif11963: Thank you!! And I chanced you back :)

Catria: To be honest, I really don’t know… In my school people don’t apply to overseas colleges so practically I don’t have anyone who can give me advice and tell me what universities I would fit in (which is why I’m using CC lol) I just have this real intense passion about Yale though I know the chances are slim. Could you recommend me matches/safeties schools for someone like me perhaps? Thanks :)

GWU: Match
American: Safety
Tulane: Match (especially if Latin America is your thing within international relations)

bump 10char…

bump bump bump …

help anyone please?

I would say your chances are:
Yale, Stanford, Columbia: Far reach; these schools are far reaches for almost all students, unless they have done something incredible, which, judging by your ECs and scores, you have not (just a fact)
Georgetown, Duke, Dartmouth and Brown: Low Reach (Decent chance); your profile matches these schools much better; high test scores/GPA, decent ECs, pretty much a great student who just wasn’t quite at a Stanford level

Thanks, fishymehta! Will writing decent essays about my personal background raise my chances for these schools?

btw, can the fact that I self-studied all my SATs and APs work as a merit for me? (though they aren’t that great…?) Help anyone??

bump 10char

Most of the international students have to self-study SAT or AP… Even in my school, the teachers have never heard the name of SAT or AP… They think to go abroad TOEFL is needed only. again they don’t know what is TOEFL…
But I think some of admission officer will give a little priority… But as there is no certification of this… it will not help you so much…

Thank you Saif11963! :)

Any more comments please?

And u have only top class high demand universities in your list… They all are most selective and it is not sure that u will be admitted there… I think it is a better option to have ‘dream schools’,‘match schools’, and most important ‘safety schools’… So u will be sure to study in USA…
any suggestion for me,bonheur2018?

I can definitely see someone like you at Georgetown - the school is known nationwide for its prestigious International Affairs program.

Yale is not a guarantee for almost anyone, but adding a bit more pizzazz and personality to your resume through extracurriculars and other such activities couldn’t hurt. However, I can definitely see you being fairly competitive for admissions at Yale and Duke.

Don’t forget that Dartmouth is in a “rural” setting compared to Columbia and Yale, so just make sure that you are matching the schools you are applying to with what fits you. I’m not sure if Stanford is the perfect fit for you, either way, it is very difficult to obtain a ‘Yes’ from them and I would think that this school would pose the biggest challenge for you.

Otherwise, good luck. Chance back?

Internationals have a harder time gaining admission to colleges, but you do have quite an impressive record. That being said, ivies are crapshoots but you should have a fairly good chance of getting into all of these schools, even if they are reaches.

Yale SCEA: Low reach
Duke: Low reach
Columbia: Reach
Brown: Low reach
Stanford: reach
Georgetown: High match
Dartmouth: Low reach
